There seems to be a lot of confusion about this. Does anyone know for sure if the TH55 is portrait/landscape switchable? It seems odd that the movie player could change the orientation but the user can't. I don't see landscape mode being necessary for the launcher but I figure it would be very handy for looking at web pages and reading eBooks. I gotta get to the bottom of this.

Not in the way that the T|3 does. From pictures & the description on the PDAFrance site, it would appear to have landscape only in the movie & picture modes.

And it wouldn't be hard for only picture/video programs to do it. Kinoma has it built in to go landscape mode should you want it to. I have to agree with joejoe, all the pictures and documentation i've seen on the TH only shows landscape mode on either pictures or video; i've yet to see it on the OS or other programs.

Plus if it had it built in, I would think Sony would name it as a feature or a review site would mention that, because that was a strong selling point for the T|3.

But if the movie player and picture viewer apps can access landscape mode, why can't other programs? If landscape/portrait isn't switchable from the launcher, I can live with it but if 3rd party applications (like eBook readers, games and web browsers) can't then I probably wouldn't buy a TH55. :(

3rd party applications (like eBook readers, games and web browsers) will need to write their codes to offer landscape just like some of them do it now
But it is true none of the released documentation shows landscape mode for anything else than movies

Bottom line, "If you've got it, flaunt it!"

Sony isn't.

It doesn't.

Many programs like Palm Reader, Flash Player, Movie Player, Kinoma Player support landscape on the NX series. It would be nice if Sony would build it into the launcher though. Netfront on the UX is a lot better with Landscape mode.
