Mobile Digital Media had a promotion where they were giving away free software (I posted about it here (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33375)) and I just wanted to follow up to say that I got my free card as did a few of my friends. It looks MDM is/was on the up and up. They were only giving them to the first 5000 people to apply and they didn't send out confirmation emails so it was a bit confusing.

Anyone else get in on this deal? Did you get your free card?

Yes, I got my card around two weeks ago. I still haven't been able to use it though as I need to find a handheld with an SD card reader.

Yea, I got the Atari Retro card, but unfortunately I was unable to get the files to run from the MS.

I got the Dictionary/Thesaurus card in the mail yesterday. I was beginning to wonder! :)

Is there anyway to get the files off the card and run them on a memory stick on a Clie - I got mine but now what?

Yup, got my card too. Completely forgot I did this, and then my wife gave me a, "What are you getting stuff that won't work with your Clie for?" look. I am going to give it to my Dad who has a Palm.

I've been mucking about all evening trying to get Rayman to work on my Clie. I started by copying the files one by one from the card (which appears to be an 8MB MMC) to the RAM of a Palm M505 and then I beamed them to my Clie. I setup an identical directory structure on my Memory Stick (/RAYMAN/Color/) and put the files in there. When I started Rayman, it craped out with some obscure error and then I had to do a soft reset. I'm pretty tired so I'll take another look tomorrow to see if I've missed anything. Honestly though, I thought I could just copy the files over and run the game but alas, this is not the case. If anyone has an experience with this sort of thing, please post any ideas, techniques and/or tips that you have. I have a friend with a 6-in-1 card reader so if worse comes to worse, I'll try that route.

I really hope I can get this to work because I also have the Sega card, the dictionary card and the Atari Retro card and I would love to use this stuff on my Clie. :)

BTW, this is NOT piracy. I own the card(s) and if I want to move the data from the card to my Clie's RAM or to a Memory Stick, that's my business. And I'm not violating the DMCA because I'm not an American and I don't live in the U.S.A.

This is not necessary illegal in the United States either. The right to create copies of the media that you have purchased, for personal use, has long been accepted part of the "fair use" doctrine in U.S. copyright laws.

gklinger,

I also tried to do this with the Atari Retro card. I have an SD/MMC card reader and I went and copied the entire contents of the card (even the stuff that is for the non-Palm platforms just in case) and copied it to a MS. I even went ahead and renamed my MS to the same name as the MMC card. I didn't have any luck and the program would never work.

Fair use or not, attempting to circumvent DRM is a violation of the DMCA but like I said, I don't (have to) care. And DMCA aside, I still haven't got this to work. I can't imagine what I'm overlooking.

I do not what to get into a big debate on this and like you said it does not matter to you. This line of thinking has been pushed by certain industry groups in the U.S., but it is not completetly true. You are right that section 1201 of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act makes it illegal to circumvent any copy-protection scheme but this is in direct contrast with all other existing U.S copyright laws. The right to create copies of the media that you have purchased, for personal use, has long been accepted part of the "fair use" doctrine in U.S. copyright laws. (Fair use is generally defined as allowing individuals to duplicate copyrighted materials for criticism, education, research, etc. without compensation to the copyright holder. )

There have been conflicting rulings, in the lower U.S. courts, on the constutionality of the DMCA. Some finding for it and others finding against it. As the cases wind their way through our court system and eventually to our Supreme Court it is a safe bet, looking at case law on the issue, that fair use will eventually be established as the consumers right. This has happened to several other technologies in the last 25 years or so (see VCRs, etc.).

I just received my Webster's Dictionary. Has anyone successfully copied that from MMC to MS, and been able to run it? I setup the same directory structure as was on the MMC. Then I launch the dictionary, and the screen blanks for a few seconds and then returns to the launcher screen. No hits, no runs, no fouls.

Anyone come up with a solution?
