The site is in Japanese, but the pictures provide some new views of the TH55.

It would be interesting to know captions under the benchmark tests especially...

And here are a bunch more:

These pictures cover the device and its new software pretty thoroughly. There are even pictures of the new desktop software here.

Whatever the hardware limitations of the TH55 are, this is certainly a sleekly designed handheld. The comparison shots demonstrate that it's remarkably close in size to the original T-series, which I think is pretty amazing considering the addition of the camera and 320x480 screen...

Thanks! I really like the shots where it sits next to existing Clies. It is always difficult to judge the size of a unit when it's pictured by itself. I'm glad Sony finally heard our pleas for a HiRes+ Clie without the bulky clamshell design. Now let's hope it sells well!

On the pocketgames site, there was this picture that I'm attaching. The benchmark stats look waaaaaay out of date. I can't believe somebody is using software that compares this new TH55 to units like 'Palm IIIc' or 'Visor Deluxe'. C'mon! What kind of benchmarking stats are these? Is this supposed to impress anybody? :)

its a bechmark that compares the emulated motorola cpu speed. its still in use because almost 70% of palm os software is still optimized for palm os4 units. please think before you post!

I can't believe that the TH55 is THAT much slower than a 33Mhz unit (Visor Platinum). Oh, boy that's horrible! Looks like I can scratch the TH55 off my list. :(

Interesting results, to say the least.

So how should we benckmark this CPU, Unregistered? How does this unit compares to Tungsten T3?
Looks like finally the T665C with HiRes+ has arrived and I can't believe this unit doesn't "run" as fast as I'd like to, as fast as Tungsten T3...

Those processor speed tests are not valid. Using OS5 (emulated 68K + ARMlets), plus the variable speed Sony architecture mean Benchmark 2 is not a good program to use!

Notice that the TJ37 has a higher score than the TH55.

You better hope those scores aren't valid.

That's what *I* was thinking too jamesgood.... but the question is, does anybody know of a different benchmarking program to use to get those answers?

I love the jog-dial in the middle.

The only explanation is that the variable processor speed ability (an ingenious development btw) is not giving accurate results. Personally, I'd be willing to forgo benchmark tests in favor of EVERY future handheld implemented variable speed processing. I think it's going to be the best thing for PDAs since color screens.

Can we get them to run a battery test and post it?

There is landscape! :)

NetFront can run in landscape, if that's what you mean.

BTW the cradle is PEG-TJ25 unit will fit.

Did I miss this somewhere?

I agree with LeggNet, what did we miss.

P.S. Landscape in Doc2Go (i.e. Excel) would be BIG BONUS.

I don't think it has landscape. Certain apps themselves will do the rotation themselves (like the movie player), but I don't think Netfront will. The device is primarily portrait, not primarily landscape like the UX (which Netfront is only landscape on).

It would be a real kick to the genitals if you bought it expecting landscape mode and didn't get it.

The idea of Sony's handheld engine is to run at a lower speed when it's necessary so the battery last longer. The score of TJ37 so high is beacuse it's CPU (ARM) always runs at full speed.

How does the HHE determine when it should run slower vs. faster? Is the default slow or fast? Are there more speed options other than 8MHz and 123MHz, or does it simply vary between those two settings?

I'm not sure on the details LanMan, but PalmOS is built allowing applications to send the processor to a very low power 'sleep' when it's waiting for your input. I'm sure Sony have extended that to also slow the processor down when the application is not doing much. Maybe they even monitor the activity, and vary speed bassed on that. I don't think it's one or two speeds, it's a whole range from what I remember.
