So, finally we have our T-form 320x480 Clie. When do you calculate you're going to have it in your hands and which color do you like ??

black or silver...

I wish it would be reasonably priced and with a cover sturdy enough to ditch the use of cases. I'm sick of how cold and unpleasent for the hands my Innopocket's Flip-Top aluminium case for my (beloved) SJ22 can get...

I want mine black, ever since NZ90 I have looked forward to own a Black Clie.

Talking about the price: I'll happily pay 350 to 400 usd if TH55 comes with both WiFi and Bluetooth.

Does anyone knows, based on the specifications, of a case designed for other model that could fit the TH55 ??

FETT

Great!! I have just realized, based on the pictures, that I could use my innopocket metal stylus with the TH55 !! :D Good luck I didn't sell them along with my NR70V.

Other questión: Do you think Sony will sold the transparent covers separatedly?? It'll be good to have an spare one, or to switch colors. (By the way, that blue-ish hue looks really neat!).

Good Evening-
The black one is divine. I too have been wanting a black CLIE since the navy blue NZ. I stayed away from the NZ since it was begging for an Atkins-izing (weight-loss). Besides it will match my car if I pruchase it in black. ;). Obviously that last one is of keen consideration. LOL.

The title of this thread says it all for me!!
I am SO ready for the TH55. It embodies all that I have wanted in a PDA for so long. I just returned an NX80 because it was way too large, heavy, and bulky. It I could have removed the screen portion and kept the jog wheel, camera, etc on the top half, it would have been perfect (very similar in idea to the TH55)
Hopefully SOON!

the th55 has a real large 480x320 screen, has everything the UX has and is lighter and thinner

The UX also has 480X320 resolution but maybe the UX has smaller screen size.

1 more reason for me not to switch. But hey, those PIM looks fancy and I wonder whether Sony would let us download it for free. Honestly speaking, I would wait for OS6 with new hardware.

:D:D Well, the navy blue TH55(if this is the case) will fit my car's color. Hadn't think about it, but now it gaves me a cool feeling.

About screen size: I have seen the UX's screen and they are really minuscule. I'd prefer pixels a little bigger like in the NR, NX series myself. Still, the UX's are amazing machines, but I really have no use for the keyboard.

About no BT: Here in Mexico, we still don't have too much devices compatibles with BT apart from cel phones, or at least I don't have come across too many, but we have a pretty decent WiFi basis. So, if I had to decide, I'd stick with WF instead of BT. But of course I want my TH55 with both of them. Who knows, maybe an european TH56 could be released...

Good Evening-
I have no need for BT. WiFi on the other hand, I adore. If they keep this thing under 400 US bones, I am going to purchase it. I swore when I paid $600 for my NR70v that it was the last time I bought a handheld that costs as much as a laptop. I am not comparing the two devices in any way (I own three handhelds and three laptops) except price.
I'll take mine in BMW 540i Black, please. :)
Oh and regarding the UX's screen, I dropped three US postage stamps out of my pocket as I leaned over to look at a UX in Circuit City and they three $0.37 stamps totally obscured the screen. Just kidding. But that screen is tiny. Too small for me.

I wish Sony would offer the TH55 in brushed aluminum like the TG50 (or whatever material that is). I find the metal looks better and it is probably more durable than plastic. Either way, I want one. I would want a TH55 even if it came in safety yellow. Hey, that's not a bad idea. I would never misplace my Clie again... :)

considering u can get a clie nx80 in US for some $300.

I don't see why the video recorder should matter much. I have a very nice Sony digicam that takes videos, but they are pretty choppy and have no sound. I can't imagine what the videos on your Clie must look like! If you want decent video, get a camcorder.

amitverma
02-05-2004, 11:39 AM
while u are correct in saying that the video quality isnt good enough but still it should've been there just for the "wow" factor
i remember one user saying that he would prefer an aluminium case than the plastic
i guess i'll second that. aluminium finish will give it kinda high-end PDA feel and will improve its already gorgeous looks!

What do you mean by record movies? Do you mean record a live stream of video from the built-in camera? I've never had a Clie with a camera so I'm not sure what I would use the camera for and as a result, I don't know if the lack of that feature is a real liability. Is that something you do often?

Maverik
02-05-2004, 02:07 PM
to gklinger, most of the clies with builtin cameras also have the ability to record video, not just take pictures. But I don't see the major problem with this, as I'm sure there's probably someone who will find a way to do it...I remember something like this with another clie that had a camera and no video support.

The thing about the video is to me: a) it's pretty horrible quality. sure it's great for off the cuff things where I wouldn't have a video camera on hand with me, but I wouldn't use it otherwise and b) size. even if it's low-quality video they're still going to take up some room. I'd rather take still shots that take up less room.

It's a feature that comes with my NX80V and on the UX50 (and on some other Clie's with cameras). It's a built-in app called Movie Recorder. And frankly I'm kinda bewildered that they just didn't drop it into the ROM like they did on mine. I'm sure alot of people who have this app on their Clies use it and like it (I know I do!) And I do use it often...over Christmas with my fam in St. Louis I actually recorded alot of video on my NX80..especially Christmas morning!
Just something that seemed so easy for Sony to include! Strange it's missing.

It might be something different about the hardware that makes it not as easy to include as you may think. But who knows, it does seem pretty strange that it's missing.

Same exact processor as the UX and it has it...Same OS too.

Maverik
02-05-2004, 02:33 PM
I'm not thinking with the processor, I'm thinking with the camera itself. I know that's unlikely, it's just the best answer I can think of as to why Sony wouldn't include it besides their own stupidity.

I agree with you. There must be some sorta hitch that caused Sony to say screw it..leave it out.

FETT

I personally don't give a .... for the video recording. Get a TRV22 and record your videos direct to a MS/MS PRO, then insert it in your Clie and enjoy. The only real useful thing about a camera in a PDA (IMO) is for taking your contacts picture directly to the address book or using it as a web-cam.

If there where a chepaer 'TH50'(without camera) that'll be my pick, or I'll change the camera for BT.

Peace...

ClieKun
02-06-2004, 08:33 AM
I wrote this on a another thread. sony knows BT is dieing and they are not including even on these New mid prices devices. The higher end might or ill have them because all the tec geeks want it. But the fact is BT is No Where Sony thought it would be at this stage of Blueooth life. Sad :(

In your dreams!

Sony rarely reduces the prices of their PDAs unless a newer unit is about to come out. New units are by definition *new* & sold at cost.

When -=*newer*=-- PDAs come out, the price reduction on previous PDAs is not that significant anyway.

YMMV.

Absolutely. I agree.

Historically Palm seems to be more aware of competitive price pressures than Sony. Sony tends to have "give aways" (i.e. free case) or rebates upon purchase of newer units. However, only prior to the release of the "next best thing" does it drop prices on existing units.

BTW, the T|3 has already been reduced in price.

Maybe Sony will "think/rethink" before it definitively "prices" the TH55 for the US market.

If it weren't for the wimpy 0.3 MP camera and no video camera, this would be a no-brainer upgrade for me. I'm waiting for the NX-80-style camera in this form factor. My NX-70 camera isn't quite good enough to capture details in documents that I could just point-and-shoot and read later...
That Clie organizer could be the killer ap, though.
