Okay, new to the forum but I have a beef with the installation of the software for my new NZ-90.

Background: After some time, I decided to upgrade from my Palm Vx to the new Clie NZ-90. I watched this board among others, saw that Circuit City was carrying them and waited for the truck to unload on Saturday so I could get mine. I consider myself proficient with computers and not easily frustrated by software issues.

Over the weekend, I had a lot of fun snapping pictures and playing with the Clie'. Upon arriving at work, I was really looking forward to installing the software and syncing my information.

PROBLEM: I thought the install to the new Palm OS would be easy. I had the older desktop on my computer and the FULL version of Intellisync software. The install of the software duplicated the desktop software and overwrote the Intellisync full version with the lite version. Moreover, it didn't sync with any of my Lotus Notes information.

Ah well...fun toy...if I can ever get it installed correctly and synched. Arrghh! Any suggestions?

Clies want you to use the Sony version of Palm Desktop. I'm surpised it didn't ask you if it could delete the older version of Palm Desktop (it scans you hard drive for previous versions and usually wants to remove them). It uses some .dlls and drivers that standard Palm Desktop doesn't include. So you really do need to install the version that came with the NZ. You should be able to delete your old version and still sync the Palm to the new version if you wish.

Sucks that it downgraded Intellisync. Can you re-install your full version? Intellisync Lite only syncs to Outlook and Lotus Organizer, so you'll need the full version to sync to Lotus Notes.

The only one I can think of is you should have uninstalled all previous versions of Palm related software from your system before installing the new Clie versions. There are some differences between them that can cause install problems. Especially if you are going from a Palm deivce to a Sony one.

I am a Palm Vx user and still waiting for my NZ. Having read this thread, I would take the advice to uninstall my Palm software in my notebook and then install the Sony software but keeping my Palm program in my desktop PC. The real pain / challenge for upgraders is to backup the data stored in Palm and transfer to NZ in a smooth manner.

Any DO and DON'T during installation will be much appreciated.

You will have to install everything manually or have problems! The choice is yours:D!

Problem alleviated...mostly....

I blew out all the software and then re-installed the Clie software with intellisync lite and then reinstalled full version intellisync over the top. It seemed to take care of the issue.

A note on Intellisync and Clie Mail. Currently, there are software issues between these programs that will not allow it to work with many different e-mail programs...including my lotus notes. The website for Intellisync says they're working on a solution but in the mean time....I lose my e-mail synchronization.

I really like the other aspects of the NZ.

Good luck to the rest. Remember to blowout previous versions of Palm OS before installing. :)
