I own a NX70, am not new to the Palm platform, but have run into a problem that I have not been able to find a solution to as yet. I cannot beam with my NX70. It will receive beams from others, but I cannot beam send to either my son's Tungsten (OS5) or a co-worker's NR70 (OS4). I know that Beam Receive is On (I've looked, and I can receive beams from both of the machines I mentioned), the IR lens is clean, so I don't know where the answer lies. Don't know but what the IR send might be non-functional. I've tried resetting (warm only) with no resolution of this issue. Any Suggestions??

Have you ever been able to beam? If you haven't, then you have a known problem with Sony devices that is (relatively) easily solved: do a hard reset.
I've run into this problem several times in the past and a hard reset fixed it every time.

:(I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Fortunately, I have the backup on the memory stick, and will synch it just before trying that drastic a step. Between those two, I should be back running again quickly.

I also have a problem with the beam function. I recently played a game of Scrabble with my son on the airplane. He has the NR70V and I have the NX70. Everytime he beamed to me it worked first time and I received quickly. When it was my turn to beam to him it took numerous tries. I got a message which said something like it couldn't find device to accept beam (bad memory for exact wording). Now this is interesting because if we kept trying, eventually it would go through. If his palm wasn't on -- then it kept the beam window like it was trying to send for a long time -- but if he was there and ready to receive I got the other message, relatively quickly. This tells me it was reaching the other unit and for some reason they couldn't understand each other. This was NEVER a problem from the NR to the NX or a problem when my other son with HIS NR beams to the other NR. Could it be the OS5 to OS4 problem? I've never tried to beam to another NX.

I believe Sony has an update for the NR on it's support site for beaming.

I purchased an NR70v ... to put it bluntly it NEVER had beaming capability... no matter what the fix... reset, patch, etc. Just took it back, and switched units... worked fine.

Right, there is always the possibility of there being a hardware problem.

The problem is with the NX for me, not the NR. I have done the update...nothing in it about beaming I think. But the problem was there before and after the update.

Well, I just ran the SYSUPDATE from the Sony website. We'll see if that makes any difference. Have to wait until I get back to work and have a chance to attempt beaming to my co-worker's NR70. If that doesn't work, a hard reset is next. If that is unsuccessful, it's back to Circuit City to attempt a return and replacement.

Yeah I know, but there was a problem the NR and one other model, just the opposite of what you were thinking. Of course this assuming that the NX has been reset. There have been other threads discussing similar issues. I only tried to pass along what I had remembered. Personally I never had a beaming problem between the NX or NR and there is two of each in this household. All updates have been done though and I don't rmember them all. What I do remember is a discussion very recently with a similar issue you are having and it was to update the NR. At first I thought they were confused too, but no I was wrong.

Thanks for the tip Larry. The update was not done on the NR -- first because they SEEM to be working ok and because I read in a thread in the NR forum that people had problems after the update so I avoided recommended my sons install it. But I will try that....and see if my beaming problems disappear. Thanks!
