Dear all, currently I'm staying in Japan, and want to buy the T650. Unfortunately I can't speak and read Japanese characters. So is there any chance to change the language or do I have to install the english os and if yes is this possible and how does this work.

Thanks

It's much easier if you go to a store that can do the conversion for you. My friends say pdas they got from Singapore and HongKong were from stores that converted them to English.

If you can't find such a store, you'll need an app like Jacksprat (and later on Jackflash). Jacksprat can back-up and restore contents in ROM. Jackflash can add and/or remove apps to and from Flash Memory to RAM.

You'll also need a copy of ROM data of OS version 4.1 in English. This means that you have to use Jacksprat on an English unit to get a copy of the ROM files, and then restore them to your unit.

If you are a first-time pda user, just follow my advice and let either the store or someone who knows what they're doing to make the conversion.

BYT, the T650C are really cool because they have 8MB ROM as opposed to only 4MB in the T665. After the conversion, you'll have at least 5MB extra memory to play around with in Jackflash.

stay cool, dude.

problem is with convers is they don`t always work correctly. Thats why Sony said conver Japanese version to others languges are NO LONGER supported service at this is done! Be very careful doing conversions because more times then not you will cause alost of internal problems. Don`t believe everything you here about conversions........

One more comment. FACTORY setting are very important! Anytime far east shops (GRAY GOODS Sellers) in Hongkong, Singapore, China etc.. say they can do conversions from Japanese to english REMEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can cause problems with compatibility! More times then not its illegal and can will cause compatibility problems! Why take a change either have one of these gray shops in far east asia or yourself screw up a unit? Sell it or learn Japanese :) Your better off.

OS 5 requires an Intel processor to run. The T665 has a Motorola Dragonball processor. Hence, the T665 will stay at 4.1 forever, which isn't such a bad thing considering some of the problems that have been reported with OS 5, particularly OS 5.21.

Actually, OS 5 requires a ARM or a MIPS processor to run.
The only time where it should run on a Intel processor is when you're using the OS 5 emulator (PalmSource calls it a "simulator") on the PC.

Or, they may adapt OS5 for use with Xscale processors later on.

I've got the T-665C (US version, the T-675C is the same for Europe-220v charger-- and the T-650 was the first and Japanese version of this lineage) and just won one on ebay for my wife (I'm keepin' the 128m MemoryStick that was included in the auction). I like some of the features of OS5, but there's not enough of a difference (for me) to want to switch. Besides, since the T-series, Sony hasn't introduced a form factor I really like. (I wish they'd do a 320x460 design that's NOT a clamshell, redo the T-665 as such and call it a T-G65!) ...Suggestion: Get a T-665C, the AC adaptor is worldwide, you only need the receptacle adaptor for the wall outlet. AND you won't have to worry about a grey market technician messin' around your clie'.

its the OS you should be worried about missingup. Anytime you mess around withtht emain system Os your bound to have problems. Use the Japanesew as is or just by a laugage you can understand. Don`t miss around with gray goods.

Hi K. F.,

Yeah, I did, I saw the story on this site's main page... It's awesome! I've posted on that thread and as I said there, I can't wait to see it in the flesh! I figure I'll get another year out of my T-665C and then upgrade when the T-H55 is being phased out (probably around Christmas '04!). Anyhow, it does seem as if Sony (or someone from Sony) has been poking around this site, noticing comments that we've all made.
