Just got my new NX80V and wanted to share my first impressions with the forum. I know there are a lot of people looking to buy one because the price has fallen drastically. After playing with it for a few hours, I realized what a cool and sleek machine my NX70V (yes...not a typo) is. Here's what I like:
* GORGEOUS screen. I have brightness down all the way and still have excellent viewability.
* Buttons at bottom of screen. These can come very handy if you play some games like pinball with the screen in the flipped position.
* Picture taking: OK...this is a stretch 'cause I have a 4 MegaPix camera already. But the size of the NX80 means I'm more likely to have it around for that Kodak moment.
* Separate Audio/Video capture buttons. Says is all...
* Lighted keys. Could come handy when working in low light conditions.
Here are some things that I did not expect or like:
* SIZE: At the bottom, the NX80 measured 0.76" thick versus 0.61" for my NX70. At the top where the camera is located, the 80 measured 0.88" with the CF slot closed versus 0.91" for NX70. Once the CF slot is opened, the top was 1.1" thick!!!! The thicker size means that neither of my TWO leather cases for the 70 don't work with the 80. Aaaargh!
* The side power button just doesn't cut it. I really like the easy to press power button of the 70.
* Collapsible stylus: what is up with that? After exercizing the stylus a few times today, the top of it doesn't stay put in the slot whereas the NX70's stylus stays put.
* CF slot looks very flimsy/fragile: makes me want to avoid inserting/removing CF cards....
* Keyboard: The NX70 definitely has a better feel to its keys. The rounded-top keys of the 80 make keyboarding slightly difficult.
* IR port in the corner: Now I have to point the unit sideways when I want to beam. I know....I tried it.... The 70's port is just where it should be....
I know I'm *****in/being critical and that there's a good chance that the 80 will grow on me especially after I sell the 70....There is a little buyer's remorse involved here...
P.S.:
Good news is that migrating went without a hitch. I renamed my profile folder for the NX70 (thanks to meir87's suggestion) and created a new profile with a different name for my 80 using Intellisync Lite. I synced and then recopied my profile folder for the 70 back into the Sony Handheld folder. NOW I CAN SYNC WITH EITHER THE 70 OR THE 80!!!! This is JUST great....
