View Full Version : Had NR for 7 months - not switching for at least 1 year
it is so good!!
everything is working without a glitch
I have a full 128 MB card (3 MB left). - tons of stuff
I am not ready to go thru the headache of adjusting to the new OS5 for at least another year - it took me forever to get everything working properly on my 4.1 NR - love it

Why 7 months!, you must love the number 7 or is it becos NR70 starts with a 7 as well...
BTW, you are right, NR is much better in terms of software right now and it is working fine with me too.. I too don't intend to change it till Clie models can get smaller, thinner, meaner and more functionality.. and not forgetting effortable price too..
NX to me is good but till to-date, not many hacks works well, most of stuff I mean applications are all OS 4 compliances.. not many OS5 stuffs are good to me as some of the authors are taking time to write a new version.. probably.. wait till like what you mentioned 7 months and see what's new in the neighbourhood then.. hee hee

Despite what you read here, OS 5 is a very niche market. Let's remember that *gasp* the Zire was the best selling PDA last quarter. Only PDA enthusiasts and people with expense accounts have snatched up the NX, NZ or TT already. Is OS 5 the wave of the future, yes, do I still want one, yes. But I'm not going to get rid of my perfectly useful, pretty damn powerful and meets all my needs and then some NR-70. I've spent so much time getting it to the point where I am truly happy with my setup I don't want to lose it and start all over again with a new more restrictive device(less usable RAM and no access to flash).
Most people seem to forget that OS6 is due out this summer as well...why buy an OS5 device, which is basically an OS4 patch onto the ARM processor when the new OS is due. It's the equivelent of dropping a new engine into an old car that can't take advantage of the speed.

OS 6 was supposed to be out this summer. I think we might see 5.2 by then, OS 6 is still a ways off I think. I'm not worried about it until my NR craps out or they come out with new model with a compelling feature that I feel I need. Right now I occasionally feel the urge to upgrade just to have the lastest and greatest, but I can suppress that. Can I spend $500 to upgrade to a model with less usable RAM and an OS that a bunch of my programs won't work with? Every time I want to upgrade I think of my 8 hacks.....

I am usually something of a tech enthusiast. I own two digital cameras (three if you include my NR70V), video capture cards, scanners, memory stick readers, etc. Despite my love for gadgets, I have yet to convince myself to upgrade my Clie. The new features of the NX and such are more niche products than something I would regularly use. While the additional speed may be nice, my NR70V is much faster than my old Palm V or my Sony 710C. I don't really need much processing power for email and scheduling anyhow. I may change my mind down the road, but right now this Clie does everything that I need it to do.

Yeah, I'll chime in too. I find that my NR70 keeps up with me just fine.
Someday I would like a nicer/brgither screen and a tougher hinge, but this NR model got me to upgrade sooner than I would have otherwise. I'll be happy with the NR untill 2005 me thinks.

I think I will wait for an OS6 device with the NR70 form factor. Not really interested in having a high resolution digital camera incorporated into my PDA, but the other features are very nice.

I still have my NR and it does wonders-however i would like the increased functionality of the NX's camera-oh well, I think I'll wait until the next PDA comes to market.

Right On!!!! The NR70 Rules!!!! I love this thing! I just keep tweaking.... adding new stuff almost weekly.
Recently I added new fonts (swiz..font hack) It's like a new PDA - everthing looks sharp.
Can't say enough good things about this PDA. I had a few hiccups (MS...sqweaky hinge) but all is fixed now.
