Deep in the heart of Texas (houston) I am having problems finding an NX80 to replace my current NX80 (screen problems.) This is at CompUSA - I asked the managers who said they didn't expect new NX80's in stock - I wonder if new NX units are pending?

Or possibly Sony is ending the series.

The UX series is already on the market and I'm sure you know about the upcoming TH55 (http://www.brighthand.com/article/FCC_Approves_Sony_Clie_TH55?site=Palm). I don't see a reason for three models that are similar.

The NR/NX/NZ design has done well for Sony over the last few years, but looks to me like it's about to be retired.

What I'm really hoping for is a model with the features and general layout of the UX series but with the same size screen as the NX series. I also want portrait and landscape support.

This is what I'm thinking, too. Aside from the wireless functions, IMHO the UX is not yet a worthy replacement for the NX. If they refined the form factor a bit and added more flexibility in the software it could be really nice, but what they've got right now isn't quite there. I'm kind of fascinated with the UX and am eager to see what they've learned from the first attempt at designing them. I wouldn't mind seeing the NXs disappear as long as the UX line could step up and replace all of its features.

I would be surprised if the NX/NZ form were discontinued. As you said, it's done well for Sony, so I don't see a reason to drop it. The UX form is intriguing, but works in a very different way than the N-series. Personally, I don't like the way the UX works in-hand, and I doubt I'm alone in that.

But as we all know, we'll probably have an answer in just a few weeks.

Prices for NX80's are dropping like panties on prom night. I'm quite certain new models are right around the corner.

I just did a search on eCost, and the NX80V is no longer available. I looked on Shopper.com (http://brighthand.com.com/Sony_CLIE_PEG_NX80V/4014-3128_9-30418797.html?part=brighthand&subj=sony_clie_peg_nx80v&tag=link) and plenty of other stores still have it in stock but I think it is winding down.

Like I said, I believe the NX series is being replaced with the TH55 and the UX series.

If the UX series came out with a model that had a much bigger screen, was slim enough to feel comfortable in my hand, and didn't have the goofy cradle thingy, I would be interested. The TH55 could also be a replacement, except that it doesn't ahve BT and WiFi, keyboard, hi-res camera, and the lid is a bit awkward compared to the N-line.

I'm not much of a thumboard user - it's all graffiti or full-size keyboard for me. The UX keyboard does nothing for me.

As we keep saying, the N-form factor has worked very well for Sony, and with the line suddenly being discounted out the door, I would be surprised if it wasn't about to be replaced with something similar. After all, if they were about to come out with a UX-80, wouldn't Sony be trying to empty stocks of current UXs instead?
