Ever wonder how Sony decide what to make out of a Clie? Come-on everyone, let's tell them: IT'S A PDA, and PDA's are meant to be small!!! and wonderful!!!
I thought my NR70V was very large for my taste. I almost settled with the then 610, but I thought my pocket can handle a NR. I'm a guy who do not carry a pocketbook like most of my opposite sex would use. So where did the NR end up is in my front pants pocket, boy does it look ugly with my trousers. Then you add a case and it becomes even thicker. I remember when NR's were released, most Clie users suggested they should make a think PDA with color and 320x480 realestate. what happen to that suggestion? Now the NZ's looked like NR's on steroid.
Then looking at NZ from a different perspective. What happen to it's memory??? People who loves gadgets craves for memory. 16MB with only 11 are useful?!!! I ran out of memory on my NR with only a few apps, like Yishow, Vindigo, etc. What can we do with only 11MB. Yes, MS are useful for storage only, not every app can run from MS directly.
The bottom line. Sony need to take their head out of it's rear and trim down it's PDA's yet retain it's usefullness. I for one can live without that camera.

Sony offers a large line of products... no one's forcing you to buy the NZ. Just wait another two months and a new T or SJ series will be out. If you look around these forums, it's clear that there are some people who have a use for the NZ.

Who defined a PDA as a small wonderful device?
PDAs are supposed to be "Personal", "Digital", and "Assist". The appropriate size, weight, color, design, look, feel, and smell, are in the eyes of the consumer population as a whole. If it's what people want it will sell and if it's not it won't. Sony will get the message and change the format. Seems simple. Considering all the negatives said about the NR and especially the NX when they were released, it's obvious that most people don't have a problem with what Sony's doing. The NR and NX are some of the most popular PDAs on the market.
Agreed if you don't like it, don't buy it...
Sony isn't trying to go for fome small and cute, they tried to make the smallest 'full' palm ever and it flopped (never the less, i still have one). The Clie is designed to kill PPCs, nothing more! The Palm OS (untill 4) wasn't intended to everything sony has made it do. The market has shifted from small to powerful, that is what the Majority wants.

You're looking in the wrong place for answers. It's not R&D that's to blame, so to speak. It's Marketing and Advertising. Obviously people in that department have decided that Big, SUV-like digital cameras that also have Palm functionality is really in right now. Personally, I disagree, and think people want PDAs that are small and play up the PDA part FIRST.
It will be interesting to see if there are other high-end models released this year without the camera, or more scaled down, with more emphasis on the PDA aspects (i.e., OS 6 perhaps?)

one of the best new pda's out right now is the hp1910 or that new small one, design wise that is. I personally hate ppc's but the design and all they put into it is amazing, I think. Sony will come out with a model comparable to the hp1910 eventually, I'm sure.

I use to work for Sony, in New Jersey...trust me they come out with some pretty silly ideas, and dont always make success, but they make up for it.
Ever try a Sony Cordless phone? They really stink, big flop.
Did you know the first cell phones Sony released, had to be recalled, because there were major problems with the frequencies, and most of the Sony Cell dept got fired, we are tlaking about 200 employees.

thats insane. and so are the people who decide to put something out too fast before they can figure out a way to make it reasonable size so almost everyone will be pleased with it instead of having all these loonies complain about the size and then go and buy it anyways.
That was a run on sentence.
But I am a loonie, so I have to say that it does suck as being so big, even compared to the nx which is already considered big against other pda's. I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to get it or wait for a next one. But if I wait, what can garentee that we will have another coming out with a cam, clamshell flip screen and all the other goodies.

Are you people forgetting about the Memory Stick PRO? You don't need internal memory with a 256/512/1GB Memory Stick PRO...
Granted they're making you pay for the memory, but at least it'll be fast 20 meg/sec I believe.

You don't need more internal memory, but it does limit the amount of apps you can have onboard. Also the less sophisticated ones with out external memory awareness also tend to booger things up... I would think with two Sony PDA's being manufactured that it might interest some Cf card manufacturers or developers to write a driver. Or maybe if they do Sony will send the goons to break their arms....

I have a friend that has a h1910 and it is awesome. Clear, bright screen. Fast and you can get a spare battery. No need for third party launchers to be able to have any background you want.
As soon as have some extra cash I may get one.

What's insane is people on this thread b*tchin' about when is Sony going to release this, and when is Sony going to release that? Then b*tiching when it's released that it's not what they wanted.. the color is wrong, or it's an eigth of an inch too big, or two ounces too heavy, or why didn't they include this or that.
They either put it out now and get accused of 'rushing' it to the market too early, or they wait till it's what everyone wants and either people b*tch about how long it takes and "when are they going to release this or that", or it never gets released because it's old technology by the time they have it shrunk down to size.
Talk about a run on sentence.

Yes I agree with the above post,
I think Sony is doing a wonderful job in their R+D department. They are coming out with new and innovative products. Maybe all aren't suited exactly to your needs, and in the case of the clie... they certainly have a model for everyone. Personally the NZ fits many of my needs very well where as the SJ series does not. You don't see me bit***n' about that do you? I simply choose the model that best fits what I want..

If Sony could make the NZ the size of the T or even the NX, they would haev done so. I mean, why not?
Remember, it's a 2MP digicam we're talking about here. 2 Megapixels! There's no NX70V/2MP digicam combo smaller than the NZ. None!
