I have a review of Facer on PDA Avenue (http://www.pdaavenue.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=127). Bottom line is that the review is not favorable. However, a new skin set is available at designsbybert (http://palmos.designsbybert.com/product_fspd.php?page=screenshot&language=en).
I loaded Facer 1.6 on my T665C today and it locked it up tight on two attempts. YMMV.

Zlauncher is definitely a lot better, I just thought i'd give it a try cause it is something different. Facer caught my eye when i saw that startup type page it has (appointments, tasks, etc). I haven't had a problem with it so far but i will still use zlauncher as my launcher

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Facer has treated me well since I fist bought it when I first heard about it many months ago. I like the Today screen and Launcher integrated into one app. Granted it isnt ZLauncher but I like what I have seen in Facer so far. I say give it a try for about a week and then make ur decision there.
TankerBob...here is something that might help. Delete Facer and the file called PktC using Filez and then reinstall and see if it would work for you.

Hm.. I used the 1.6 for a few weeks and really liked it. But Facer crashed every day a few times, and some programs didnt appear...
The today view is a really cool thing, but there are many bugs left.. perhaps give 1.7 a try

That file doesn't exist on my device. Appreciate the suggestion, though. What does it do?
From the Facer Website:

Corrupted bitmap in Facer 1.6
Several user has inform us about a crashing problem of Facer 1.6 with memory stick access, in Sony Clie devices. We have trace this problem and it appear that a corrupted bitmap (the memory card icon) is the culprit. We have fix this bug and all new download will includes a fix for this problem.
I downloaded the new file from Pocketcraft (http://www.pocketcraft.com/download.htm) and it works as advertised, I guess someone needs to remove the corrupt version from the ClieSource download section!

JS,
Thanks for the point-out! I downloaded the update and it does work. Although, it doesn't fix all the problems the developer claimed. It still assigns apps to categories in a haphazard manner and doesn't use the built-in launcher's category database. I'm sticking w/ZLauncher, but to each his own!

Same Here, I just like to try all the new or updated software. Zlauncher fits my needs:)

Looks like ZLauncher cleaned all that out when it uninstalled Facer. Kudos of ZL :) The high density icon fix took care of the lockup. Again, appreciate your willingness to help.

ZLauncher all the way.
Off-topic or perhaps not:"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion.""...the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence”. This from the same man, one Donald Rumsfeld, who said nothing, when in Iraq in 1984, about allegations of chemical weapons use by Iraq, despite State Department “evidence” and a UN report that "Chemical weapons in the form of aerial bombs have been used in the areas inspected in Iran by the specialists.” And so it appears that there is evidence of the absence of Donald Rumsfeld’s voice at the very moment when Iraq’s alleged threat to international security first emerged. And in this case, the evidence of absence is indeed evidence.
Rumsfeld resigned two and a half months later.

I've tried Facer but just can't justify spending $15 so my Clie can look pretty in the cradle. I already use Datebk5, so it wouldn't offer much, and the launcher is a joke.
I still have a hard time justifying the money for ZLauncher as I wouldn't use many of it's features. I think I will spring for it because it is cheap enough, it is better than the built-in, and I'm looking forward to the file manager.

Griff,
I'd recommend sitting down and writing down what you want out of a launcher. There are some free ones out there that are better than the built-in but not nearly as powerful as ZLauncher. CRSLauncher comes to mind in that category.
ZLauncher has grown on me over time, above my happy start with it. The high density icons are great. I've explored many of its deeper features over time while enjoying those for which I switched over. At $12, it really is a steal compared with its competition.

Well, that's sorta my point I guess...it's only $12, and the guys at zztechs seem to have the same attitude I respect from the other developers I support.
The high density icons do look good, especially Datebk5's new icon, to I think it's as good as done for me.

I have really lowered my standards for palm os and learned to respect any developer that makes a working program and doesn't charge for upgrades. unlike, not to mention any names, iambic.

Oh, good...it wasn't just me! I tried to get it to run on my NR70 and it froze once the initial screen came up. I thought maybe it was conflicting with Today...but then I decided it wasn't worth the effort to figure out!

It was a corrupt bitmap in the program file. A slipstream version 1.6 was released today that fixed it. Still didn't fix some of the old bugs, nor did it read the app catagories from the built-in like the ad said. More of the same...
However, the designsbybert skins looked great!

Well, I tried it again...if it was competing with Wassup or Today, it would be a winner...but as a launcher...not for me.
HiRes icons are sort of like virtual graffiti...once you've had it, you can never go back! ;)

I love Facer...but I have a few gripes. First, if you go to the Edit categories option in App, the VG will show up. When I press OK, the VG becomes locked in place. I have to exit Facer to fix it. Also, when I stick a memory stick in the slot, it reverts back to the default launcher's VFS screen. Anyone know how to at least fix the latter one?

That was supposedly fixed in 1.6. Have you tried to download the 1.6 slipstream fix in the last 24 hours?
