My NR70V is almost 2 years old so I'm thinking of upgrading to a NX80V.

Any one out there been through a NR70V to NX80V upgrade/transfer of data and apps?

Any experiance with this move would be helpful!

Thanks

There are new clies on the way,

Clies with WiFi and may be bluetooth integrated,
so if you wanna be "fully connected" you should better wait a little and best oportunities will come

anyway, the best is to wait a little, because when the new clies come available, the nx80 will lower a little its price,

The only changes that I had to make (that I can remember) were for ListMaker, SkinManager, and Docs2Go. I did not bother w/ the LM upgrade, I replaced SkinManager w/ PhotoSkin, and dropped the cash for the upgrade to Docs2Go (which, in my humble opinion, is worth the money). Otherwise, I didn't have any problems moving from the NR to the NX. Either that or the aps I needed to change had free upgrades or just different versions available and I went and got 'em. If you go in this direction, have fun!

PS: may not be an issue, but if you've got spare styli for the NR you won't be able to use them in the NX silo, in case you haven't gotten the chance to hold one yet.

PPS (edit): Hotsyncing may also be an issue. I'd used the same Palm Desktop and Hotsync ap since I had a Palm IIIe and suddenly our computer would only recognize either my wife's NR or my NX, but not both at the same time. After installing everything related via the NX's cdrom, things returned to normal. But if you're used to just resyncing your new PDA to transfer your old info it may not behave the same.

And you have to get used to Graffitti 2 or Decuma, meaning relearning most of the non-alphanumerics and some of the alphas. I still find myself botching the "t" when I try writing quickly!

I agree with most of oyakodon mentioned, although I don't understand why Hotsyncing is an issue.

The only mistake I made was to back up *everything* on my MS and then insert and wanna run the NX. I think the better way is to really look what you wanna have piece by piece and then backup.

Jackflash requires new version! (if you use it at all - but works great)

I just remembered where the Hotsyncing was an issue, and it wasn't what I'd thought. For some reason the hardware drivers got confused when using Data Import (NX) or MS Import (NR) between my wife's Clié and my own. It kept "finding new hardware" and would switch off one handheld when another's Import function was activated, but only the first couple of times. I think we solved this by removing both drivers, activating the Import on the NX first then the NR, and then they both worked fine.

The Hotsyncing came up at work where I sync w/ Outlook. The NX didn't like the old Chapura/pocketmirror software and refused to recognize the NX. Figured it really really wanted Intellisync, tried to install it, still didn't work. Uninstalled Chapura, still nothing, and then only after going into the registery and finding one small remnant of Chapura and removing it did the NX finally sync up w/ Outlook.

I can't explain why these issues happened, but they did. Partly it is because I assumed that each new PDA I'd get would still use the same conduits as the previous so I never bothered to install the new software (*ahem* as the manuals suggest *ahem* :) ).
*shrug* every other PDA--including the NR70V--worked fine along the original Palm IIIe conduit. Tech marched on, I suppose!
