Hi!
So on the advice of some folks on this board, I downloaded Plucker about a week ago. i have been trying to get through the user manual (as was strongly suggested to me) while messing around with the software. I have not yet been successful at getting a webpage on my tj!
I think I'm getting stuck on the conduit issue, assigning a path or something. The language in the manual is way too computerese for me. Can someone please help!
I'm usually fairly successful with learning computer stuff intuitively if I can just get started and learn the basics.
Thanks!

Have you downloaded the Plucker Desktop? If you have that it is very easy to get webpages on your clie. I use that all the time and it works great, plus it makes it so much easier than trying to use the command line interpreter.

Download JPluck http://jpluck.sourceforge.net/#download .
Then read the manual http://jpluck.sourceforge.net/news/archives/JPluck-Manual.pdf .
Some sites are very difficult to clip but most work quite well. The trick is to set up and edit the sites on the JPluck interface to the correct URL. It takes some playing around but I'v been able to clip most sites except those that require a log-on. Also, don't add more that 1 link depth until you know that the site works properly. The conversion takes a long time and depth of more than 1 link takes up a lot of room and time.
Good luck

i am using the desktop. (btw, i'm trying to read the manual but really, it's like another language to me when i get into the second chapter). here's what's happening:
1) when i open the desktop, an error message comes up saying that the locale can't be set.
2)i'm able to add, configure and update channels.
3) when i hotsync, nothing happens. (plucker has been downloaded onto my clie). on the desktop on my laptop nothing looks different, and on my clie, only the user manual is there when i open up plucker.
please, more specific help!
thanks, in advance.

Did you set the destination for your channel in Plucker desktop?

I'm having similar ploblem with Jpluck. I have Jpluck 2.0.9. I have the autosync set for memory stick and Jpluck Budy on my UX50. I get the pages converted and the .pdb files are in my jpluck\card directory under my user account. When I hotsync I get nothing moved to my UX50.
Help please...

i'm more confused now. Am i supposed to use Jpluck instead of plucker? When i install JPluck, it says that i need to remove other conduits-- how do i do this?!

Well, you can just copy the .pdb files directly to your Clie via MS Import, or double click on them and set the destination.
Many people prefer jpluck to plucker-desktop. That's all. In any case, Plucker Desktop SHOULD work. If it doesn't do the job, post a bug report on bugs.plkr.org. jpluck has a bug reporting email address. See jpluck.sf.net.

I found jPluck to be much more reliable. The Plucker desktop kept locking up my PowerBook. (It's also a lot faster than iSiloX.)

I've been developing and programming web sites for some time now and have been always looking for an off-line html viewer to present my clients webpages to them without having to lug my laptop around. Lo and behold---Plucker!
I have had wonderful results with Plucker on my SJ-22. There are 2 items you need to download. (BOTH can be attained from www.plkr.org )
The first is Plucker v1.6.2 for your HANDHELD. The second is Plucker Desktop. Desktop of course converts the pages for upload to your handheld. The only problem I have had with Plucker v1.6.2 is the Desktop will only allow you to update one channel (website) at a time. If you're trying to Hotsync more than one channel (site) at a time this may be the reason you're Hotsync isn't doing anything. For your other issues:
1) The "....locale" error message you receive when you open desktop is easily remedied. Open Plucker Desktop and click on the "Options" tab at the top of the screen. Next, on the drop down menu, highlight and click on "Preferences". This will open a window with many tabs, but should open with "Interface" Tab staring you right in the face. Under the "Interface" Tab, UNCHECK the command:"Translate interface into the local language."
I ran into this issue because I use Windows XP Professional; BUT is common with most versions of Windows.
2) Click "OK" at the bottom of the screen, exit out of the Plucker Desktop and try reopening it. You should no longer have the error message appear.
pm me with any other questions as I have some pretty extensive knowledge of Plucker.
Sincerely,
Shawn Berg

sbergonlinesals,
Have you tried JPluck for desktop instead of the Plucker desktop? If not, you should. I find it much more stable and easy to work with. ;)

wellsjs,
I have tried earlier versions, but nothing recently. I'm never to proud to try something again, though.

Do you use Jpluck Palm Buddy with hotsync to get the files to your clie?
I like the Jpluck desktop but I'm having trouble getting the hotsync of new files to work automatically

otter,
I use JPluck on the desktop and Plucker 1.6.2 on my NX80V. Not sure if the UX50 has difficulties whereas mine doesn't. I would go through the JPluck manual (link above on this page) line for line, section by section as this is a fantastic app once you get it working.
On JPluck (desktop) you must create a .jxl file and it must be added (loaded) in the "Autoupdate" tab of this desktop app.
Create a few links, manually convert them, and run hotsync. Do they load and view on your UX50?

wellsjs,
I have created the .jxl and added to the Autoupdate tab. When I convert the links the .pdb files are placed in my palm user directory/jpluck/card directory. When I run hotsync they will load the first time. If I convert them (update) again and run hotsync the new copies are not moved to the UX50.
The manual says that the .jxl needs to be converted using the included script and installed. I have done this but Jpluck Palm Buddy does not see any of this information.
ideas?

Check your hotsync settings: right click the hotsync icon in your system tray and choose "custom." Highlight "JPluck/Change." Make sure "Autoupdate at hotsync" is checked and "memory card" and "memory stick" are selected.
On the JPluck desktop, choose "Document," "Preferences," "Document." In the "Destination" section, make sure "Hotsync" is checked and your hotsync ID is selected.
Go to the "AutoUpdate" tab. Check your "Settings." Make sure "AutoUpdate only from" setting doesn't have you blocked out, and "Check for due documents every "1 minute" (while troubleshooting only). Change to something reasonable once you have it working.

Wow...Never too proud to say I was wrong! For all interested, Jpluck Desktop along with the Plucker Viewer on your handheld is absolutely the way to view webpages off-line!
It is kinda sad thought, the maker of JPluck no longer refining his baby. Although for some time to come, I'm sure this combo of JPluck Desktop and the Plucker viewer will suit me just fine.

wellsjs,
I have removed Jpluck Palm Buddy from my UX50. I now get the files when I hotsync. Thanks
Do you use the Jpluck Palm Buddy? I like the idea of being able to add new sites to be plucked from the Plucker but can't seem to get it to work.....

JPluck is a desktop application only that requires the Plucker PDA viewer to sync with. Install "plucker.prc" on your handheld. Do not install the desktop app part of plucker. Install the version of JPluck that has the "jre" in its file name. Use the online manual as well as all the documentation already provided here at ClieSource for setup.

Can someone explain what those different downloading options are?
eg: uk mirror, torrents, zip, bz2.
I'm downloading the torrents plucker desktop-- will it give me the prc?
why is this so confusing!

rocki, forget that! just d/l the "...-jre.exe" version of jpluck and install it! it already has the latest version of the needed plucker application of the palm itself.
it is very intuitive!
btw - what you tried to d/l was "BitTorrent", it's a new approach of sharing download links on the web without hogging the website bandwidth - it uses P2P technology to download the files by chunks from other users who already downloaded it (like kazaa, imesh, gnutella, edonkey, etc...)
