without all the hacked drivers and stuff what can you do with a CF inserted into a NX80V. I have the NX80V but it dosen't tell you what you can actually do with it.

well, you can use the cf for storage, and landline modem, and CF gps. you can also use the 4-in-1 adapter for SD cards.

And to add to unregistered, you can't do a lot of the fun stuff for instance music, movie or image files cannot be copied or accessed directly from the CF.

i was under the impression that with cf magic, you could play mp3's off the cf -- is this correct?

Yes, you're correct.
I guess I was under the assumption that dante21 was asking what you could do straight out the box.

Yes stronggeek that was what I wanted to know I don't really want to get any of that other stuff if I can do basic stuff with it right out of the box.

Has anyone here used the cf magic with their clie, and if so , how would you rate it? I am leery of trying the hacking downloadable files because I am not a power user, and not all that adept at fiddling with my new nx80v. Just afraid to mess it up, but would like to take advantage of the cf slot.

That would be correct BUT CF Magic isn't written for the NX73 or the NX80. So if you read up on the products before you buy you would see this. My suggestion for this model would be the hacked apps because the other commercial driver seems to be getting a lot of complaints lately of no replies to service inquiry. You can research all of your options here on CS though. Use the search and you will find most of what you are looking for in info. :)

 Probablly I misunderstand the intial questioning, but frankly said I don't get it. On your NX80 you *only* have to the latest version for Clie-Apps (Movie-Player, Audio-Player, File-View, etc.etc.) and then you can easily select the CF as medium like the MS.
NO hacked version, NO additional driver, NO 3rd party SW.

I have been using it for awhile, but by and large a larger Memory stick is way way way better. With all the kinks that all the hacked drivers come with its sometimes bothersome. I have used all of them (athena, cf magic, peleca, etc...)
In any case, they are good for the most part. But since MS really isn't all that much more expensive (Especially w/ 30% off:) ) I would go for a nice big MS.
I would give CF Magic an 8 out of 10....

Are you certain you didn't install Pelaca's CF file from the UX50.
That's what I'm using and it works great.
Before this (Brand new NX80 for instance) I could only read MP3s from my MS.
Should have been the same for you.

Hello everyone...
I am a new owner of a NX80 with 256MB memory stick (128X2) and 512MB CF card as storage.
I plan on loading all apps (docs to go, oxford dictionary, games, etc.) in my CF card to preserve space/memory - to be removed only when I need to go online; while all my MP3s and voice recordings will be on the memory stick. (I hope this is doable).
Do I understand correctly that I will not need to install pelaca's/mini's CF hacks since I will not use the CF for audio/video? Please let me know so I can hunt one of their versions down if need be.
And also, if I ever *change my mind* in the future and decide to use the CF card for music, can I install the hacks later with no need for resets?
Much thanks for whatever advice you can give me.

marcs28, 1st congratulations on your new machine and
2nd yes, you are understanding correctly in that you do not need the CF hacks since you're not going to use your cf for audio or video.

Bunches of thanks stronggeek. I do looove my NX-80 and at this point (i think) it does everything i want it to do plus more. Good to know I won't need the hack just yet.

Without a CF hack thing, you can put a CF into your NX and make it a slightly heavier paperweight than an NX without a CF.

Well, you can put mp3s in there and copy them over to the MS when you want to listen to them. :-/
I keep one full length movie & many other short clips on my CF, since it's 1G in size. I've no plans to move on to the 2.2G though. Not worth spending the extra money.
Also I load heeps of MP3s on the CF card.
I love my NX70 with CF ability, so it's here to stay. :D

Anytime marcs28.
