Not all MP3 works with my N760C. It only works at 44.1KHz sampling frequency and 96 kbps Bit rate MP3s. You may check with your Clie manual for these specifications and compare with the MP3 spec that works with your computer. You may need to rip the MP3s again with right recording spec.

Yea its probably the MP3 not the player

i encoded one at 96kps and 44.1 khz and its good for about 10 seconds then starts skipping all over the place. it couldn't be my clie itself could it? because that would make me very very sad

If I recall, the specs of the MP3 player built into the clie can successfully interpret MP3s ripped at 128kps. This is accdg to the guys at Sony.

Try re-ripping the MP3 to conform.

I've read about "ripping" CDs from other forums.

Make sure your CD-ripper is a good one. I use MusicMatch to convert CD tracks to MP3, and the files it creates are excellent.

Try copying an MP3 file to the stick which already conforms to the 128kps standard.

If all this doesn't work, then consider using another MP3 player app to run it. It could be the built-in audioplayer app may be screwed up.

Last possible source of the problem is, of course, the hardware itself. But lets try to exhaust all other variables first.

do you have any suggestions on a new mp3 player app, i tried both energy and psytexx player and neither of them seem to want to work

Hmm, I've had no problems whatsoever with mp3's encoded at 192kbit/s and higher. Even VBR files play very without hiccups.
When creating mp3's I use Exact Audio Copy for ripping cd's and Lame for the encoding.

I don't think the problem occurs when MP3s are encoded at 128kbs or higher. It's when it's compressed at a lower sampling rate to save space that it becomes unreliable.

FYI, I use RealJukebox to rip MP3 from CD. The AudioPlayer would not play any MP3 below 96 kbps.

i think i've tried jsut about everything and i can't get it to work. does the clie use a hardware decoder for the mp3 decoding or is it jsut a software one, becuase if it is hardware than it must just be my software since all my other sound functions work perfectly....hmm...
