I've just bought a Holux GR-230 bluetooth GPS, and am trying to use it with Mapopolis (1.22).
I've paired the bluetooth device with the UX50 and entered the 4-digit code successfully. When I try to start the device from Mapopolis it detects the device (I select the Holux from the list), goes to the "Bluetooth serial port" dialog box for about 30 seconds, then says "The GPS Unit Could Not Be Started".

The Holux is showing flashing blue and orange lights, which indicates that all is well.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

TIA

Mapopolis Navigator has been giving a lot of people problems. One of the problems has been in maintaining a GPS lock. Apparently Mapopolis Navigator will lose the connection even when the GPS unit is still locked on to satellites. Mostly this has occurred with serial GPS connections, so I'm not sure if your Bluetooth connection is affected. Anyway, here's a link to a thread (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4564) on the GPSPassions forum that covers this issue.

Mapopolis is aware of these problems and is trying to correct them. Here's a link to download Mapopolis Navigator 1.27 beta (http://www.mapopolis.com/PalmNavBeta.zip). It is supposed to be more stable.

This doesn't seem to be specific to Mapopolis. I've since downloaded the Mapsonic demo, and this too cannot start the GPS.
Mapsonic doesn't give an error message - it just goes into an endless loop of "searching for bluetooth devices" - select Holux - "bluetooth serial port - preparing"....

I've successfully made a bluetooth connection from a laptop (using the Mapsonic PC software), so I guess the hardware is OK.

Has anyone else successfully installed and used the Gr-230?

Mine is finally working. I had to go to the preferences app and then go to trusted devices and then click on add device. It will see the GR-230 and save it. Then i went into the Mapopolis app and went to the menu and selected GPS settings. At the top you click on the arrow and selct the Use Bluetooth Connection. Then go to start gps.

I screwed up my previously functioning connection to my Bluetooth Globalsat GPS with identical problems being able to detect the GPS, but not able to establish a serial connection after I installed BtSerial (freeware) trying to get a quicker/better connection process. Uninstalling BtSerial and removing BtToggle solved my problem.

Perhaps you have similar BT management software???

A cold reset seemed to do the trick. I've since moved to Mapsonic (demo), but am now getting problems with it losing the BT connection every couple of minutes. This has been reported elsewhere, but apparently not resolved.
