Well I have bad news for UX50 owners who want to play Legacy. You won't on the UX50.

After a number of e,ails with redshift tech support we came to a final answer for now . . . Here is a cut and paste.

Hello !

It seems the only available method for us is to make a native Arm version. That locking bug could be resolved, but the game would be *too* slow on ux.
Making a native Arm version can be done later, it's a huge work, and we still have problems which must be fixed before starting a native Arm version.
Please ask a refund, I can't tell you exact date for the ux version.

Regards,

Sorry for the bad news. . .

Yeah, there is no way to regulate the speed of the UX by the developer and Legacy is a bit slow on my 200mhz NX (easily manageable). I can't imagine how slow it might be on 13 mhz or even 123mhz.

Just to clear something up: Legacy already uses ARMlets (lot's of them) but there are (undocumented) ways to write a program completely in ARM or 99% ARM.

That does suck, but you'd think Sony would try to be more consistant.

If the TH really has the sony handheld engine (and that means the battery conserving, sometimes molasses moving UX type engine), it seems likely that other higher end sony's are going use that format as well. If this problem isn't taken care of, then sony applications could become limited.

Does LightSpeed work on the UX? If so, it could override the settings and force a higher clock speed.

Perhaps when the OS4 version is finished (if ever), it'll run better on the UX-50?

I've been waiting to test the OS4 version.

Hope something happens soon, even if it's a no go.

Yeah, I e-mailed them about it, they said that they're having problems improving the speed without decreasing stability and that in the future I should refer to their website :p
Ah well, maybe it'll be there tomorrow :)

Its easy to write full apps as pnolets (ARM) code. No biggy.. same as writing an armlet itself... its just you shift from being 68k oriented to ARMlet oriented, calling back to 68k side (instead of 68k side calling arm code). The problem is that you're then supporting two separate apps.. a 698k oriented one for OS4 PDAs, and a pno oriented one for OS5 PDAs. Not good. So they rightly choose to be 68k oriented, and have pnoles for the performance bottlenecks. But making it all pnolet would be a huge job for them.

In short, Sony shoudl fix their problems, but they usually do not.
