Comes with NetFront also. Perhaps for Bluetooth Internet browsing!

Thanks for the info. Nice work.

With that flip cover (that won't rotate to the back) I see little benefit in getting this over an NX. And my stylii don't stay in as it is - why would I want the silo on the bottom, where it's always pointed at the floor.

Sony just can't please me lately. I'm liking the Garmin.

Part of my problem is that I just love the form factor of my T615 (buttons and all). Any form factor change is bad change.

Nice job putting this together Honolulu.

Wow.. it looks so sexy with the cover closed! Looks like we get the headphone jack on the top, and a much larger speaker on the back. This is excellent. Thanks for the heads up honolulu.

Something I have noticed, it looks like Sony is getting rid of the power button and is going to be using these sliders instead. In the SJ-33 and TG50 the Power and Hold buttons are integrated into one slider. On the NZ90, the hold and power remain seperate, but the power is a slider. I like the idea. It saves room on the case. My only issue would be mechanical wear from turning the unit on and off a lot.

Great find! OS5!! yayy.... Too bad it doesn't have a collapsible (VG) graffiti like the Tungsten... that would be awesome.

My biggest complaint so far is the screen. Looks small...

What is that button on top of the jog dial? It has a silver finish. Voice recording, perhaps?

Actually, this isn't a Smart-Lion battery as in the NZ90. This is the same setup that the NX and NR have. They put a little trap door in the unit and make it easy to remove the battery so that you will recycle the battery before you throw the unit away. This is not a swappable batter like the one found in the NZ90.

Here is an interesting quote from the manual...

"Turn off your CLIE Handheld to quit using the Bluetooth function."

I hope this doesn't mean that there isn't a way to disable bluetooth. I would only want it running when I knew I was going to be using it.

VG on the T|T? that's a good one

Great to see that the unit has a dedicated Home/Menu button. This will eliminate any fear of a two-button combo for these functions.. ala Treo.

If the display size is the same as models in the T-series, then it looks in these pictures around a half an inch thick including the cover, and maybe 0.2 inches taller than a T6xxC due to the hinge and antenna.

Where did you see NetFront?

I saw it on Page 2 under list of Trademarks disclosure, but I maybe wrong since the manual is supposed to be at least 84 pages in all where we could have read some more information about the TG50.

Cheers!:D

It looks like the manual is a rough draft... you can see where corrections have been made and items have been added or deleted. It is a partial copy. If we could see the rest we could be sure about what apps are included in the ROM. I would also be interested to see how controls of the bluetooth features are implimented.

I would much rather not have to rely on hardware buttons to access the launcher, but yes I am very RELIEVED Sony did not follow Handsprung's "two button salute" method. ;)

What really has me puzzled is the manual mentioning Graffiti input as an option. I don't see how that is possible since there is no Graffiti panel. This could just be the usual boilerplate Input wizard that ships with every PalmOS device.

This is what I love about this site.
You guys can spot things I would never have picked up on.
Even if I don't get one, at least I know I'm well informed.

That's why I chose the 615c.

Don't care for the stylus in the bottom. And the cover is a good idea but might get in the way during use.

If the battery isn't changeable then that's a definite disappointment.

There are also :

* removable batteries
* clear signs of OS5 ans MS pro compatibility (page 2 / trademarks list), even if the manual is still incomplete, there are good signs about this device !

The manual tells you how to take out the battery to recycle it, but the NR and NX manuals tell the same thing. This is not the same type of battery found in the NZ90.

Looks more like the manual is giving instructions on how to remove the battery for recyling when you are disposing of the handheld.

Agreed. This doesn't indicate the battery is hot swappable.

Its an NX60 that got liposuction! very nice. I wish they would have made the screen larger instead of putting a keyboard at the bottom.

So when you are done with the unit and want to throw it away yet would like to recycle the battery. ;)

Did anyone notice that this thing is as thin as the bottom half of an NR70V?! That would make it the thinnest PalmOS PDA ever at 0.34" (without cover).

My concern with this sweet looking device is the battery life. Ah, who am I kidding! I was worried it would be an OS4.1 device but now it looks like to a reasonable degree it will be OS5, and have a voice recorder. As thin as the device appears to be I'd think it would not have GSM/GPRS capabilities like some have thought, simply because there is no room for one. At the price of $400, I will most likely be getting the TG50 as long as it does not have GSM/GPRS capabilities.

Yo. Pondering, this contraption will be available for the wayfarers' reciept when? Doth it possess a bluetooth?? and what other items to justify its high price? **Wouldn't the cover swing all the way back like a traditional notepad cover?**

This thing looks great. With this device in the locker Sony will really corner the market. This type seems to be aimed at hi-tec professionals what with the keyboard but small form factor.

Yes, the cover swings all the way back, notepad-style (check the second PDF).

Here are the features that make it worth $399:

-Bluetooth
-Fast processor
-Voice Recorder
-Built-in Keyboard
-Super-thin
-OS5 (and all the apps that come with it)

Somebody remind me why we need a Tungsten ;)

My dreams appear to be coming true! The TG50 is everything I have wanted in a PDA! Now, if has more than 11MB User Accesible RAM then it would be the perfect PDA.

Actually, the cover does not flip back all of the way. I expect it flips back about 135 degrees, just like the SJ33. It is removable... so if it gets in the way you can take it off.

Hmm... I just noticed something interesting. The back of the unit has the holes that hold the flip cover on the current T series. So it looks like we could use the leather flip covers on the TG50. Looking at the Innopocket Aluminum case for the T665, it looks like the buttons of the TG50 will line up. So it looks like we can use the Innopocket case for the T665 on the TG50! The only issue is the placement of the stylus silo and access to the record button.. that ruins the whole thing...

Gee, I wish we knew more about this awesome device like where to pre-order! I love seeing the FCC information, and getting to see what the device looks like. One of my complaints right off the bat is it appears to be using the T series' thin little flipper thingy for the up and down, but on the keyboard there appears to be Up and Down arrow keys. I wonder how the TG50 will do for gaming.

Get a Game Controller, my man. Best $40 I've ever spent. I'm playing that new GTS Racing game from Astraware -- plays like a DREAM (as do all action-heavy games).

OCell: You're right about the flipcover. My mistake!

For those who can swing it, a game controller, a TG50 and some of the new OS5 games could make the TG50 the ultimate high-end Game Boy system. If Sony wanted to give Nintendo a run for their money, they could try to push to get a low-end OS5 device out (around $200 or less) to compete with Nintendo's portable market.

Yeah; the T-series buttons cease to be a problem when you get a Game Controller. The GC has that authentic feel that was previously exclusive to 'real' systems like the GBA. Really, I cannot recommend it enough!!!

PS: Does anyone else think that the new GBA SP seems just a little inspired by the NR70?

Oh yeah, I can see a lot of the subtle Sony inspired design cues in the GBA SP. The flip-up screen, the Li-On battery, the recessed buttons. Imitation is one of the more sincere forms of flatery.

I've actually pre-ordered a Japanese GBA SP, and I hope to get it by the end of the week. I ordered a black one so it would go with my entertainment system. Once I do get it, I will then decide if I want to sell my normal GBA.

Back on topic though, the high-end Sony models are solidly designed and for what you are getting are reasonably priced. I thought about getting the NZ90 because it has a Hi-Res+ screen, and also a 2MP camera. I'm waiting until the TG50 comes out and there are some product reviews on it before I get one.

Hey check out the T650/T665C DSI case.

http://www.dsi-usa.com/pda/metal/sonycase.htm

Now, from that it almost would work with the new TG if the TG is the same size. The only problem would be the stylus silo but that could be fixed.

From the manual it seems that the stylus might not be the same as others because it says to push it in until it clicks.

It 'clicks' on my NX, as well. It looks the same to me.
