Pardon my ignorancs, but I am new to this forum and the world of clie. I have just ordered ny UX and await it very impatiently.

The question I have is. What is the significance of beta software?

What's the difference between beta and full version of a software programme?

Is it a clie thing, or possibly for hackers?

I previously had a TT but never read much into forums. Perhapse its a palm thing?

Could someone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Beta software is still in the testing stage and may be released to a defined set of users to assist the developer in debugging prior to a full release. The alpha stage is a very early stage of development followed by the beta stage. When the developer is rather confident the software is 'prime time', the full version will be released to the general public.

A beta version of an application is just a "pre-release" or more or less "not ready for prime time" yet. Beta versions can be buggy and so you have to be ready for crashes, conflicts, and resets.
Some developers post their bets for anyone to download, others offer a beta upon request or invitation. If you're new to PDAs, stay away till you're adept and comfortable with your new Clie.
Have fun and good luck with your new 'baby"
