I have a TJ-25 and a 64Mb MS (original). I'm considering an MS Pro because I run a lot of progs off the MS. Do I remember correctly that some specification of the TJ-25 said it supported the MS Pro but not the "higher access speeds" or something like that? Would an MS Pro just run as fast as a regular one? Anyone have 1st-hand experience?
TIA

Well in almost all cases they run at the same speed, except if your writing a large amount of data, you wouldn't notice anyway.
The real reason to get a memory stick pro is for the larger size then the write speed (unless your taking pictures).

I got a 256mb MS Pro for my TJ35 and I do not notice any difference in performance between it and my regular 128mb Lexar MS. (besides capacity of course).

Dave, so even when you transfer data from the PC to Clie, using DataImport let's say, the transfer speed is still the same as with regular memory sticks?
I was hoping it would be faster with MS Pro, but maybe transfer speed is limited by USB. If Clie only uses USB 1.1 and not USB 2.0, then the transfer speed will not be all that fast anyway.

When your playing videos you'll notice the performance on the ms pro is faster and a bit smooter.

I DO notice a small difference between my 256MB Pro and 128x2 Regular memory-sticks. It isn't anything to write home about though.

Pete, thats a good point that I did not pay attention to or try. Using data import to transfer to MS Pro does seem a bit faster. I will try to benchmark it in a low tech way (10mb mp3 and a stopwatch) and post back the results.

OK, the unofficial benchmarking results are in. Average of three transfers of a 15mb mp3 file copied and pasted to a Sony brandes 256mb MS Pro and a Lexar 128mb MS over a USB 2.0 connection using data import.
MS Pro: 34 seconds
MS: 45 Seconds
Conclusion: The transfer rate of the MS Pro is faster than that of the plain MS. Good, especially if you are loading a whole lot of files at one time.
Disclaimer: This test was conducted in real world conditions and not in a lab. Results may vary from person to person, machine to machine and MS to MS. :D

David, thanks a lot for doing the test. Much appreciated. I usually transfer large mp3 mixes (100MB+) so this is important. Now, if I could only find some cash to get that 512MB MS Pro I wanted... ;-)

I know, I need to get a 512 so I can start putting movies on my clie, instead of just television episodes.

What movie player are you using? Kinoma?
I tried running MMPlayer (apparently version 0.2.1 works on TJ35), but for some reason I couldn't get it to work. I kept getting a "file not found" message when hitting the "Play" button, even though I successfully added the movie to the playlist. Anyway, MMPlayer can play native .avi files which means files that take up less space than Kinoma-formatted files, but are of course more processor-heavy, so battery life will probably diminish...

really, I didn't realise the avi files were smaller... I'll have to investigate once I get my 35 back.
