View Full Version : E-mail programs

I find myself once again looking at something new for handling of e-mail, and was hoping to find some suggestions.

I quickly ditched the client that came with my NR70v because it's delete from server option was non-existent. If I remember right, it just deleted everything it downloaded, which is not what I want.

I've been using Eudora for quite a while, and for the most part it does what I need it to. I really wish is supported hi-res plus. I've also had problems when coming back from trips where it will get confused about what to sync, and will tell me it can't delete message x from the desktop. Quite annoying and certainly not seemless.

I recently downloaded Iambic Mail and I'll be playing with it. One of the features it lacks for me is the filtering of messages ala Eudora. I use one lists account for all of my Yahoo Groups. Both on in Outlook, and in Eudora, I have messages containing [pdbk] going to a Datebk folder, those with [shadow-discuss] go to Shadow, etc. I miss this quite a bit with IM.

I must also confess that I will have a great struggle in getting myself to buy the program. I really do not like the business practices Iambic has chosen in the past, and it will feel like I am supporting a bad company if I purchase the software. I'm hoping I'll find an alternative as good as IM.

I've seen various other programs that look ok, but many seem to require you use their servers as a middle-man...I'd rather not cache my mail on another server thank.

So based on the above, I'd say my requirements are a seemless sync with Outlook, user control over deletion on server, filtering, hi-res+. Eudora seems to have alot of what I need, but I must admit I am spoiled by all the programs that look "pretty" now when they support hi-res+.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to try? I am looking forward to SnapperMail's supporting of sync with Outlook. I've also thought of going with two clients, one for desktop sync, the other for when I'm on the road, but I really dislike having dual programs.

What would be awesome is a program that supported the built in mail database with pop/smtp ability. I could then sync with Sony's client but also download while I am on the road.

As a pie in the sky, I would love to see a client support sync of multiple folders from Outlook. As it is now, I can't take my Shadow and Datebk5 folders with me when I sync, would love to see that!

Clie Mail does allow you to leave mail on the server.  It's in the account settings.

I use iambic Mail and it does just what I want when away from home for a few days without my laptop: it allows me to log into my various email accounts via my mobile phone, download headers, read (and respond to) any important mail, delete junk - and then be able to catch up properly when I get to my PC.

I find keeping my aims simple means my Clie works best for me. It's not a PC and I don't expect to be able to use it as such.

I have to wonder that if you want to boycott iambic why even try their software?

Does iambic Mail run from MS without PowerRun?

That's a valid question. The reason is I am always open to other alternatives to my own opinion. If Iambic mail has the features I need, and no other developer comes close, I would likely look back at my decision and compare it with others I've made.

Note I didn't say I won't buy from Iambic, just that'd I'd have a great struggle doing so.

There was some setting it did not have...perhaps it was delete from server when deleted from trash. I think that was it.

I want to be able to download my messages on the road, delete the ones I don't want downloaded to my desktop, and move on.

I am using SM for on the road & the built-in email client for desktop sync. It works the best for me. (Outlook sync is a ways down the road for SM, AFAIK)

use powerrun to move it to the MS. it should sync fine except new emails will be loaded to ram but when you run iambic mail the emails will be moved to memorystick with the rest of the stuff.

As long as it resides in MS, I don't think you can perform the sync at all. Move it back to RAM and try again.

Griff, where do i sign up to join your boycott of buying iambic programs? I have bought/registered over 150 programs for palm os and they are the only company that ever tried to charge me for an upgrade. And it wasn't like it was a totally redesigned program, it was just a minor update for bump attack pinball. Luckily, that was the only program I have bought from them. Last time I will make that mistake.

There isn't any official boycott, not sure why I got pinned with that. My statement has been that I would find it challenging to buy from Iambic.

For anyone who cares, I decided to kill Iambic mail after the 3 day, at least it seemed like 3 days, demo period. Now off to try Snapper Mail. I really think I'm going to wind up with two mail clients.

Does anyone use Mozilla as their desktop mail program? And if so, which palm mail program do you use to hotsync it?

I use Iambic as the mail program. I stopped using Clie mail because lack of unicode support (cannot use other language than english ....). Iambic is quite ok, though i heard that snappermail is better. as of now it answers my needs so i don't change it ...

That's my .5 cent ...
