View Full Version : How do you carry your extra memory sticks?

I noticed that a lot of people have multiple memory sticks
(http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39258)
I have 2 memory sticks, and carry my Clie in a draw string bag. For those of you who don't have a case with memory stick holders, how do you carry your extra memory sticks around?
I feel very unconfortable with what I'm doing now (just throwing the other memory stick in the bag with the Clie.) as it is prone to falling out. In fact, on one occasion, I sat down in a chair and pulled out my Clie. I wanted to change my memory sticks, but when I reached into the bag, it was gone! I was panic stricken as 128MB memory sticks aren't something that you want to lose. Luckly, the memory stick had just fallen out of the bag and onto the floor under my chair. But what if I didn't want to switch memory sticks at that moment? I would have left not knowing that I had dropped my memory stick...
Thus, does anyone have any easy, cheap and secure suggestions as to how you carry your extra memory sticks around? I saw on PDANews24 that a business card holder was suggested. However, I'm only carrying around one extra memory stick.
Thanks!
(Note, I'm going to be away for a week, so I may not be able to reply right away).

lol, that's where I keep my Clie.. Although, knowing me, if I did that, my memory stick would probably end up going through the wash (i've done that before with a minidisc... good think that the player wasn't in there that time.) Memory sticks are pretty small, so I may not notice it..

Could you sew a pocket on the inside of the bag so you could carry each MS separately? I just made a suede pouch and may add a pocket for another MS.
Keychains. I washed my jean with the keychain. It survived. Luckily I picked it up while it was still wet, before going to the dryer. ;)

DanT,
Those are pretty cool. Where did you get them?
I carry my 64mb and my 128mb MS in my wallet in one of the credit card slots. I generally keep my MS Pro in my TJ.

Yeah...I washed my memory stick by accident once. I freaked out!...let it dry naturally and works fine. Amazing!
The one on the left is a homemade one. I bought Sony brand MS once and it came with that case. I just drilled a tiny hole for the keychain. The one in the middle is from doml.com. The one on the right is from cputopia.com. Check this thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34674) for more detail.
The laundry-washed transparent-Lexar-MS-Select is really cool. I can see the water inside the MS covering the chips. So I just slowly dryed it with hairdryer until all those moistures were gone, then sticked it in the Clie and everything went back normally. Kudos for the Lexar! I finally see the benefit of having transparent MS. ;)

I LOVE the one on the right! Like a mini-business card holder.

I use the 2 outer ones as well. Never seen that middle one before though.
The middle one reminds me of the classic cigaret lighter. I just have it for collection, not actually using it. It has ejector button to popup the MS. It helps me understand how the Clie MS slot ejector works. You may be able to see the spring plate at the bottom of the see-thru case.

For the metal case on the right, does it turn out like it's hinged on the bottom, so you pull the mem stick from the top toward you, and then slide it out? or how does it work?
Exactly as you described. I got one case with 4 MSs, the size of a credit card with thickness of an MS. It's really cool.

You know the tin boxes Altoids come in? There is a mini box that is the perfect size for memory sticks. Those little tin boxes are nice.

I have my nice rock hard case which holds my stuff.

Its mostly used for when I go on trips or camera shoots though. If I got ultra portable then I just have 1 in the Clie and 2 in the Case.

sweet case! oh!
Yap. Same way. If you just dig a little in the link I mentioned previously (cputopia.com), you can see the silver 4MS case one, below, for $8.42. The store is in Nevada, so it is closer to Hawaii.

So on top of MS costing more than other forms of flash media, why are the cases for MS following the same trend?!

ok. so i place an order with cputopia. everyhting is goin dandy, until it comes to shipping. the only choice for me is 2nd day air, which is $19 shipping charge and the cases i'm buying total $12. where else can i get these cases?
and, i use all MS, SD, and CF. are the inserts removable so i could possibly just fabricate my own to accept like 2 MS and 1 CF or something?

I have a Sony camera, so I have a number of MSes kicking around.
A nice solution for me was to take a plastic case from a mini-cassette (like those used for dictation recorders) and cut the two spindles off with a utility knife.
It holds 3 sticks perfectly without wasting space.

That spring was the first thing I noticed. I thought it was cool and it does look like a cig lighter:)

my ripoffs case for the NR70 has two pockets for Memory sticks. One I use for business cards, the other for 3 memory sticks.

WoW!!! DanT!! Those are amazing! However, neither my lexar nor my sandisk came with cases. And I'm on a low budget lol! I think I like cass_m's idea. Cheap and effective!
Hmm.. My SanDisk compact flash card came with a case, but why didn't my memory stick? Hmm...?

Not many folks ship by ground to Hawaii.:D If you don't mind gold, Globalsource has a similar case, possibly the same case, and it's only $8. Their shipping may be lower if they use USPS.

I have a Vaja Clie Case for my UX that has 2 MS slots. Plus I have a aluminium 4 MS case about the size of 10 business cards.

I recently had to admit that I still carry a fanny pack....
It holds EVERYTHING (PDA, phone, pager, wallet, keys, etc.)
I put all my MS in the credit card slots inside one of the zippered pockets. Waterproof, shockproof, and kjbad-proof!!!

Greetings-
I have one of those plastic cases that my Sony branded MS came in. I glued it to the back of my NR70v and it then became a carry-with pocket for my extra MS (loaded with mp3's of course).

What a cool idea! I've always carried mine in my pocket. One went through the washing machine and luckily it still works. I could use some sort of adhesive to attach my plastic memory stick sleeves to the underside of my NX60 for storage. There's space under the CF slot bulge that would be perfect for that. I know, I know, all you Clie purists out there are wincing! :D

For those of you with a GC-10 game pad, a memory stick fits nicely under the pad when it's in the pad's plastic storage case.
