I have followed the instructions in the compact flash newbie thread to a t yet when I try to finish and install the drivers it always says
"Cannot Intall this Hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware:

Sony PEG Mass Storage

An error occurred during the installation of the device"

And then some crap about because the INF was written for windows 95 or later. I'm running XP Pro. Anyone help? I really want to get some MP3's on here.

Hmm, if you are talking about putting the NX73 in the cradle and running Data Import on the Clie, you have to install the drivers for windows from the CD. Put the CD in your drive, the autorun should run, if not open the setup program in the root directory of the disk. From the setup program, choose the Clie Utilities on the left. Click the install button next to Data Export and follow the install directions.

If that's not the problem, you may want to clarify a little more.

I have installed data import and the hacked CF drivers and yet when I go to data import and hit connect and it asks to install drivers on my pc it gives me the error in the first post after pulling the drivers from either the cd or my window\system32\drivers folder. At that point I see if I can see the CF card in My Computer which I never can. I apologize if I'm not detailed enough but this is my first palm and I'm a little new to it.

Data Export is different from Data Import. You may need to uninstall the drivers that were installed when you ran Data Import and then install Data Export. This has to be done before running Data Import on the Clie. For some reason, trying to load the drivers from the CD when you connect the Clie doesn't work right. The drivers have to be installed beforehand.

Are you using an NX73? I was under the impression it was not necessary to use the hacked drivers. I don't have to with my NX80 anyway. Just the hacked programs from the UX

So I should just install the hacked Audioplayer and Movieplayer and dataimport should make the CF card come up as a removeable drive in My computer? I reset my clie because nothing is on there but how can i delete the logs from hotsync because it reinstalls everything automatically. If I can't get this thing to work soon I might just sell it cuz this is a pain.

In order to keep it wiped out when you hotsync, clear out your backup in the user folder in the Sony Handheld directory (example: c:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\Billyboyjef\backup). Hotsync is designed to save you from hard resets so it backs your stuff up to a backup folder in your user folder.

About the Audioplayer and Movieplayer: yes that should be all you need. The hacked CF driver is basically the NX73/80 driver hacked to make some of the Sony apps work with the CF card. It came out before the UX was introduced, which uses two memory cards and will therefore work with the CF and MS once hacked for the other CF supporting Clies.

Great that sounds like it will work for me then. I checked the path you said for my backup files but they weren't there and I hadn't changed anything during the installation. Do you know the extension on these files and maybe I can search my C drive for it.

What I gave you is just an example. The file extensions are .prc and .pdb but they should be in the backup folder under the user name you have on your clie in the Sony Handheld folder or something like that. The addresses and dates etc are another story.

Ok I ended up finding the files after a restart for some reason but whenever I try to connect with data Import for the first time it tries to install the drivers for it and they never install correctly, it says an error has occured during the installation. Is there somewhere I can download the data import CF drivers for the PC anywhere?

K, Billybobjef, The guy to find is Dripps. He should be able to get you the drivers and tell you how to load them and what not to load due to the type of clie you are using. Or Pelaca. :)

You have to run the install of Data Export from the CD first. It is a program. When it installs, it automatically installs the necessary drivers.

The only thing I need now is for the CF card to show up in My Computer so I can copy my MP3's over to it and my NX73 should be able to play it off there since i put the hacked Audioplayer on there.

I did install Data Export and it says No Drive or Card detected.
