View Full Version : How's video playback using the SJ22?

I've been seriously considering buying the audio adapter for the SJ22 so I can start playing back videos w/ sound (any MP3s of course :)).  I've seen a couple of members who have already bought the adapter, so I'm assuming some of you have already done what I'm describing.

Before I put the money down for the adapter, I wanted to ask whoever has done this already as to the frames-per-second and playback quality of the videos.  I've used Kinoma before, but only the one which came bundled with the Clie & only with the fairly poor resolution sample files included.  The playback wasn't all that impressive using those files (esp. considering what we can accomplish pictures-wise with the hires screen) and I'm afraid once sound is added into the mix, it would suffer much more.

I'm planning on resizing videos such as the latest Simpsons episodes into a smaller resolution suitable for the Clie and store a few (if possible) to MS.  I'm afraid that playback would become choppy & out of sync with the current processor (even with overclocking), which would make the audio adapter nothing more than an add-on for MP3 use only (for the price I'm paying, I could easily buy a separate unit for that purpose).

Anyone have some insight in this issue?

I would suggest just buying a CLIE with built in Mp3. The movies won't be extremely slow, just somewhat hard to view.

Unless you already have a memorystick, and can get the adapter at a discounted or second hand price of around, well, let's say 50 USD, I'd go for a seperate pendrive MP3 player.

I owned the SA10 and was very happy with it, but it's just not worth its new price. I now have a Tungsten|T.

Oh, and video playback: forget it. You can actually see some samples yourself without the adapter, just install GMovie and see the low framerate and bad colours for yourself.

Gmovie is aweful, Kinoma is bad, but significantly better. Better to just get an OS5 or PPC for video.

I have to (grudgingly) agree.
As cool as it is to view videos on my SJ33 using Kinoma, I can't fit enough at onto a 128MB MS to be able to really watch and enjoy shows I like enough to convert.

The ability to use large-capacity MSPro with the OS5+ Clies makes a huge difference, not to mention having the horsepower and the hardware to reproduce quality video and sound together.

For low-end non-critical fiddling with multimedia, I wouldn't go below an SJ33 or NR series in OS4 Clies.
