Hey Everyone. Great Site! Can anyone please explain this whole connecting a Cell Phone to NR70V thing to get e-mail etc.( What does the V Stand for anyway?). I am about to buy either a Siemens M50 OR a Sony Ericsson T300 cell phone. Siemens has PDA Cable support only whereas Sony has irDA and Cable Support as well as Bluetooth. I thought Sony NR70 wasn't Bluetooth Compatible or compatible with any wireless Application. What is the best method of Connection? Serial or irDA? Does Bluetooth feature for my Model at all? i haven't a Clue! I have e-mailed Siemens and others and have gotten no straight answers. Its a perpetually Grey Area! All I want to do is upload/download e-mail to/from PDA. What do I need? Do i even need a Bluetooth Phone or will the Siemens with Cable support only do the job? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanx Quintron.

Personally if I were you I'd get whichever of those phones supports bluetooth and get a bluetooth memory stick from www.expansys.com to put in your clie. Its better than IrDA and cable in that you can have your phone sitting on a belt clip or in your pocket and still use it to get online.
Oh, and the "V" stands for video.

If you don't have BT or IR on your phone, go to www.thesupplynet.com
Search from the dropdown box Sony Clie for your model. You will get a list of supported phones.
Purchase the appropriate cable (about $50). The cable comes with complete setup instructions (5 minutes).
Works like a charm.
Good luck.

Does the cables at thesupplynet.com work with the nx70v as well? Has anyone tried it? I have checked out the site and I have a compatible phone and they say that it will work with the nx, but with all of the compatibility issues that the nx has had i would like to know if it actually works from someone who has tried it.

cables sound like a great way to connect if you already own a cell phone without bluetooth or IR. can you browse web pages and use aim with this connection. does it dial out from my phone and use cell minutes or does it connect threw my phones internet connection?
I have service with Verizon...I'm not sure about other service providers, but my NR70v just uses the phone as a modem, dials #777 which is Verizon's free ISP...just uses regular minutes, which is tight with unlimited nights and weekends.

i guess dial up is better than nothing but i was hopeing it would connect threw my phones internet connection because i have unlimited internet access on my sprint plan.

i have another question. what is the difference between a phone with or without "GMS"? im not sure what in means but i dont think my phone has it. Also is there some type of bluetooth adapter for cell phones without built in bluetooth?
I'm guessing you mean GSM, which is a type of cellular network. At&t and Tmobile are GSM, whereas Verizon is TDMA.

So maybe I can get an answer here. Can I access the internet if im on a TDMA network? Through dial-up method. I am on AT&T but not one of their new GSM plans, I'm using their still more common TDMA plan.

U stands for United States whereas J stands for Japanese.
And since I use a T720 I already picked up the cable for my NR70 and it works flawlessly, if not a bit slow. I'm also on Verizon so I definately utilize the unlimited nights & weekends minutes plan.
And even though Verizon is TDMA it still has an express network which is +/- $30 a month.

Also, if you have verizon and use the cable even though the T720 isn't listed as a high-speed phone you will still need edit the transfer rate in order for it to work, the directions are on this site and also if you contact verizon tech support.

So, If you have a verizon phone and you have your clie dial #777 then it is "free" to connect to the internet? (the only "cost" being the use of minutes).

Why can't AT&T be that nice. M-Life sucks.

They're AT&T, they can screw anyone over. :)
I actually switched from at&t to verizon, at&t's chicago gsm rollout was laughable, and their customer service response was like "yeah, it sucks, but deal with it...thank you for calling at&t"

I agree. AT&T is treating GSM as some new fancy technology that should cost more and not be as available yet... while services like Verizon and Sprint are making it standard. It really pisses me off that my contract with AT&T doesn't run out until December :(.

When the low weather system of supply meets the high weather system of demand you get Hurricane Annoyance.
I got out of my contract last year when at&t limited their evening and weekend hours...when they change the terms of the contract you're allowed...by law...to void the contract within 30 days without penalty.

Well, I didn't find out that AT&T quietly changed the evening time from 8pm to 9pm until after I had changed to a nationwide plan, in changing plans, technically I sgined a new contract... I think. All in all, I am VERY dissatisfied with AT&T, poo on them.

Just to mention:
the E in nr70V/E stands for "European".....
