Hello all,
Here downunder the WiFi card has not been released yet. I've been speaking to some retailers and they are not quite sure when it will be released here in Australia. It is coming but they dont know when. Anyway, thats another story for another post.
My question is:
I've got a NX70V and a Compaq Armada 1750. What components do i need to get WiFi happening on my NX when the CF does become available. Also what software will i require.
Im new to this area so any information would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
G

Unless you can get the stuff for free, money would help:).
Seriously, you would need the PEGA-WL100 CF Sony card and a WAP(802.11b 2.4GHz) of some sort. It all depends if your going to have a LAN network, (infrastructure mode) or adhoc mode(a single computer). What kind of internet connection do you have?

ok, before i get lost here.....
i have a dialup connection to my ISP provider running at 56K. all i really want to do is hook up my nx to my armada and be able to surf the net (probably be slow, im aware of that), receive and send email and able to sync via WiFi etc....
not really inerested in anything too elaborate. something nice and simple (as cheap as possible) but able to do the job

I just got my wifi card. I didn't have any real problems getting it running, but (close your ears, Larry) I was amazed/appalled at the size. So, it might be good to get PowerRun now so you have it all figured out when the card comes out..

Ouch! Net Front, yucky:D!
If your ISP is AOL, I would wait until someone can assure you that it'll work. You said you had a Compaq, but I don't know if it's a laptop or a desktop. With a laptop, all you would need is a PCMCIA card. A desktop will need either a card adapter or Ethernet card to hook up to a wireless access point. Some seem to have the best results using NetGear.

Even with syncing.... without at least a wireless router, I'm not sure how the wifi would communicate with the computer. But if anyone will have an idea, it will probably be the helpful techno-geeks here ; D

ok,
i mentioned all that in the first post.....
im in australia and the ISP i use is iPRIMUS, which probably wont mean much to the folks up north (U.S). I hook up to the ISP via the built in modem running at 56k.
My PC is a Compaq Armada 1750 laptop with PCMCIA slots.

I just mentioned PowerRun because I found it to be important in my recent installation etc. of Netfront and Verichat for the WiFi. I, obviously, have no way of knowing what you have running.... You asked about software, so I mentioned it. I'm a relative newbie and (while not technologically unaware) certainly not up to the knowledge of some of our more "senior" (posts, not age :D ) members. So, I just thought I would pass on a tidbit. Sorry if the connection was unclear. Good luck figuring it all out.

No I am not familar with iPRIMUS, AOL uses different stuff than most regular ISP's from what I have seen.
Sounds like all you'll need is a network/wireless 802.11B PCMCIA card for your laptop and the PEGA-WL100 CF card for the Clie. For now stay away from any 54G cards. You want an 802.11B compatible card that will work in adhoc mode for your laptop. I can't say which one will work best though.

Hi,
It will be tough to connect your NX70V to the net via the dial-up connection of your laptop. A WiFi PCMCIA card won't help as it will not be an access point ! What you need is a wireless router that will have to be connected to your laptop via an ethernet port (that ethernet connection can be a PCMCIA card on your laptop). Then you'll have to set up a LAN, so that the NX70V can access the net via the PC.
Somebody stops me if I am wrong...
