Is there any software that can change my ux50's screen oriantation to portrait?

nothing standard, but some apps (eg PalmReader) do support these capabilities internally... so it must be possible !

Hopefully it will appear in the next evolution of the series.

Hey Inomad
now that you have a UX 50, how would you rate it compared to the other ones you have had? Also have you had any Pocket PC based devices? which do you prefer
cheers

I've had PPC (Casiopeia), PalmPilot (original, III and Vx), Clie NR70V and UX50 ... the UX50 is pretty much the best (though I do miss the wired remote audio control and consumer IrDA) and the Palms have consistantly beaten the PPCs

I have had a dozen ppc's and about 13 palmos devices. Hp's ipaqs are among the nicest around. (I had a 3835, 3955, 2215, and 4155) They work very well, are hast, easy to use, and compatable with most all ppc (arm) software. Toshibas ppc's suck. 2 of my toshibas had a broken screen. (factory mistake) Another 2 were too slow, and werent sdio compatable. (i had an e805, e755,e330,and e405) Button lag! I hated my clie nr70, s320, and nx73v. they were too complicated and os 4 was too limited. The palm m125 was nice, but mine broke 4 times. My tungsten t is still one of my favorites, it had nice buttons and a fast processor. (but i sold it) The zire 71 is very slow when gaming or watching videos. The T3 had too many bugs. My handspring visor was basic, but i only had it for 4 months. (my first pda) The zodiac was nice, but a lack of games and minor compatability issues made me sell it. Im sure theres some more pdas that i forgot about. Finally, the ux. I like this unit. The screen is bright, though small. The processor seems to keep up with videos and games. The keyboard is very usable, and the wifi is fast.
I still prefer ppc because of its native file format usage, nice media players and games. I like both palm os 5 and wm for their own reasons. I will get another ppc at the release of wm2004, and i might also pick up a palm os 6 device while im at it.

Inomad, may I ask what you do for a living - to be able to buy all those pdas?

I sell 'em on ebay or take 'em back to the store (if their less than 30 days old). A new one costs me only $100 or $200 depending on the price of the unit.

That's cool - good to know there are other gadget fanatics out there. Not alone!

If i could have just one? Either my ux, tungsten|t or ipaq 3955. I'd have to decide from those 3. Probebly the ipaq. (I have hardly used my ux yet, i just got it yeterday, so i cant fairly judge the ux)

I had two Ipaq 5545 one for me and the other for my wife. My wife never used hers because she said that it was hard to use and she got tired of always seeing what was still running in the background. I thought it was alright but it seemed like every time I went to sync it would come up with an error. The only thing that would clear the error and let it sync would be to soft reset. It seemed like I was always soft reseting the dumb little thing. (JUNK) Finally I ordered my wife a UX-40 for Christmas and she ordered me a UX-50 for Christmas. :D
Still waiting for there delivery. Should be in this week.
Hopefully!

ppc 2003 is much better. Activesync 3.0-3.5 had some major problems, but ppc2003 and sctivesync 3.7 made syncing easier then hotsync.

Semantically, there is no 'PPC2003'. The OS name was changed to Windows Mobile ater PPC2002.

no, on the back of my old ipaq 2215 the sticker said ppc2003. On the disk from my e805 the sticker said ppc2003. It has 2 names. AS in windows xp is windows 2002. (it says that on my win xp box)

GAMsALeh: your sense of humour is wicked!! This is no stuff to talk lightheartedly about! You've just put tens of thousands of UX users in an emotional roller coaster!

Totally agree. I am a big fan of the atmosphere. Also, there is more under the sun than just the ux50 and rotation.
