Just wondering what launcher all of you guys and girls are using on your NZ and Why, I downloaded the MegaLauncher, and the ZLauncher. I think the ZLauncher is slightly better. Havn't tried Launcher X Though.

Right now I'm using the new Megalauncher. I like the way it integrates MS files and runs them. I haven't tried the new ZL. From those who use it, what are the advantages?

Launcher X. I like the high res+ support.

pdagal,

Have you tried the new ML and ZL? Any thoughts vs Launcher X. My big quibble with LX is the s-l-o-w support and updates. What do you think?

I thought from reading the info on their (ML and ZL) sites that they support high res+ (480 x 320) on NRs but only use the Palm OS 5 high res setting (320 x 320) on Palm OS 5 devices like the NX and NZ. I could be totally wrong-- anyone else want to set me straight?

I really want a full screen high res+ launcher with grafitti area collapsed, and that's why I went with LX. I agree that their support is very slow. Heck, I wanted to do a review of Palm OS launchers (probably still will) and when I wrote to them, they never answered me! Usually software developers are dying to have us do reviews of their stuff.

Zlauncher uses hires+... I have mine configured tabless with the bottom bars minimized and the factory task bar hidden.

I agree with you on low support. I have yet to buy launcher X because It does not support background images or wallpapers. heh, I like wallpapers.

There are many differences between the supplied OS5 and the Launchers. Whats the point on actually buying or even getting something for free if there is not a "better" or any differences from the launchers and the supplied OS.

To me IMHO and I think I am economically correct here, is that each company who makes a unique launcher is in direct competition to improve their launcher vs other launchers. So the fact is there will always be differences, but not a "better", because something better to one person may not be better for another.

You can click the link below to see what launcher may be best for you. Its a detailed launcher chart of the most popular launchers out right now:

oneeyesquare

Palmgear.com or Handango.com for all your PDA software needs. There is a Plam "freeware site" but it proportedly sel-finstalls spyware and has a million nasty popup/unders...

OK - gonna toss this out there and see what bites.

I see through these posts that nobody is using YiShow. Any particular reasons?

I'm using YiShow on my NR70V and I love it. I'm fully planning on upgrading it to my NZ when I buy it. I'm suprised more folks haven't piped up about it either.

I also used YIshow on the NR but once I got the NX I downloaded the last release with OS5 support (and for OS5 do not use the other one otherwise you will get truncated wveverything) and it was not any better than the previous version and so for OS5 I would say it is the worst launcher out there, it is only updated code to work on OS5 with no added features at present.

I am using mega today but hate it-I tried Launcher X but it has a bug in it-freezes the Os5 NX. Tried the others as well-come on Yibing update Yishow please!!!

Has anybody actually emailed Yibing? I would but I don't actually *have* the NZ yet... :)

There is a whole thread on the NX forum about it...
I liked yshow, but z-launchers aggressive upgrade track and ease of backimages swung me their way. They are constantly adding/upgrading features. Just notified today of 2.2beta and installed it...

I've seen a thread in circulation now where somebody is emailing him and not getting anywhere.

I'm thinking of jumping off Yishow cuz it interferes with Fitaly stamp.

Have you tried the 1.2 version? I'm using it on my NZ and so far no freezes...I really like it, miss yishow, bu twill try Z-Launcher just because I can...who knows, might change.

I'm still wishing a launcher would incorporate button features ... I have to use TealMaster and TealLaunch to get my device the way I like it...irritates me that no launch re-addresses the buttons for you.

1 Button Launcher just doesn't do it for me...so that option is out.

Alternatives?? anyone?

Littlesix - you have a NZ, don't you? Assuming I am remembering correctly, it sounds like you're currently using YiShow. It's working on OS5 then?

Yep - have an NZ and an Nx before that one - used Yishow on both. It just doesn't interact with Fitaly at all, which is the reason I'm shopping for a launcher.

Yishow for 5.0 has been out for a while, but you have to be careful when you download it. His numbering system for the versions is a bit weird, so if you're not careful, it's not entirely obvious what version you're downloading.

I don't understand whats so much better about these launchers. I personally jsut like the standrad clie one. Its simple intuative and works well. Can anyone tell me why they switch?

Just speaking for me, Ark - it's a personal thing. Like putting wallpaper on a computer. Self-expression.

I haven't quite gotten the hang of the resident browser on the Clie. I think I'm going to try and stick with it for a while to see if grows on me. So far it hasn't.

Good luck on the resident browser, LITTLESIX. It grew on me but, luckily, I had some disinfectant that I used and it came right off:D
Seriously, I think it was designed by the same person who made the new stylus: looks neat until you actually try to use it (but maybe I'm too "old school" wanting tabs and directories instead of floating clouds of files:eek:

Anyway, I'm going to toss this out: I recently tried the new Megalauncher 4.1 and found it much better IMHO than ZLauncher (no, no, heretic, heretic)

What do you think, guys & gals. Convince me of the error of my ways:p

Hard to argue against a statement like that when you don't give ANY reasons why you like ML better. Zlauncher has way more features and costs less, so hard to support a statement that ML is "much better".

TritonB7, Good except for one bug when moving an app to card it freezes up requiring a soft reset. This is the first bug I've encountered and I've had it since mid-Oct. '02. There's long thread in the "apps" forum about it. 300 some odd posts. I actually finaly learned how to add an app to the quicklaunch favorites!!!

I am usil ML for OS5 with 320*480. I have used ML for ever and like the way it works.

I like the advanced way of deleting apps keeping their db or preferences or vice versa. And the possibility to view all related databases to any app.

It is skinable (nice with the Mac look) and a bunch of Icons are now available to give a better look to some apps. Silver started this type of features.

What is better in Zlauncher ?

Okay, for those who've never used ML, what I like about it, in addition to the above some of things I like about ML (partial list from site) are:

Upper and lower panels completely adjustable
Expansion cards support
External skins, background and icons set support
Large icons view
Small icons view
Advanced view
Info view
Beam view
Category features changing capability:
Normal category
Hidden category
Protected category
Category views displaying capability:
Normal
Tabs
Built-in:
World time
Test center
Integrated:
Trash bin
Favorites list
Recent list
Common list
One-stop control utilities:
"Drag and Drop"
"Touch and Wait"
Sort by application parameters and types

Okay, now of these things, which are better in ZL?

TIA

I learned to add stuff to the quick launcher in ZL yesterday! and I've noticed the soft reset bug thing. Any ideas on how to fix it? by the way I'm on the beta also now.

The aftermarket launchers use too much memory. The standard Palm launcher in "List" view works best for me. With PowerRUN, all the apps appear on the "All" screen.

TritonB7,
Z-launcher 3 is rumoured due out in early March. I'd guess they'll have fixed it by then if not before. The thread is over in the apps section. Includes a list of what they plan to integrate in the future
Mr Thompson,
I've easily offloaded 3x the size of Zlauncher to my memstick plus they exist as links in their appropriate tabs. Mere seconds for them to load AND pretty backgrounds!!!!
