Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I just recently bought a N710C on Ebay, and this will be the first time I'm jumping into the PDA market. I've never bothered to check into this market before, but since seeing my friend's J22, I had to get one.

So, with all that being said, I have a few questions about my N710C...

First, the one I bought off EBay does not come with the Installation CD. It does come with the cradle, the stylus, and the unit. This is worrying me beyond belief, but hopefully I can find the CD online or something. So far, I've been unsuccessful. Can somebody here point me in the right direction as to what I need to be able to run my PDA?

Secondly, I keep reading about the XP problems with my PDA. I've gone to Sony's website, and downloaded the patches, but I'm lost as to how to install them, etc. Is it just a simple install and let Windows do the trick? Or do I need to upgrade to the Palm 4.0 desktop or whatever? Speaking of that, what does the palm desktop refer to? The actual program in Windows XP? Or the program on the PDA?

Lastly, the PDA I bought does not come with the headphones and the remote control for the MP3 player. I have an old Mini Disc player I don't use anymore, and that has a remote attached to it. Does anyone know if it will be compatible with the PDA? Has anyone tried it?

There is also something floating around on EBay that will upgrade my Palm OS from 3.5 to 4.0 Is this just a scam? Does this actually work? Is there another place to get it for download?

Thanks in advance for answering a newbie's questions, I appreciate it!

Welcome to CS...

Your N 710 is an older model but could still be quite useful.

1. Installation CD. - you should start a single topic thread with your inquiry in the subject line, something like "looking for n710c CD".

2. The XP patches are for _after_ you run the installation CD and install the PC apps.

3. The only OS upgrade offered by Sony involved sending the machine in for a ROM replacement (I believe it was for the n760 only). The only software patches that I've seen were for old Palm brand hardware and are very, very device specific.
