Yes, and here is the link: http://www.btinternet.com/~harakan/PalmVNC/
I like Win-Hand better: http://www.win-hand.com/menu.htm
Win-Hand is only HiRes, but much faster and more functional.

wow, winhand seems like remote desktop for Palm.. that could save a lot of trouble.. And it could completely remove the need to store bulky emails on the clie. Thanks for the link.. now I just need a wifi card.. :)

I have used vnc for years and have had little trouble with it. I's free and more than capable.

I found version it on palmgearhq.com but it looks like its a commercial product.
Also, has anyone had success running a VNC server on a mac runnning OS 10.2.x?
I set up OSXvnc Server on my TiBook and could connect using a VNC Client on that same machine (it showed a recursive view like mirrors facing each other!) but not from another machine.

I always thought palmvnc was freeware. There is no register option and the lic. does mention 'free'.

Yes, but, they have hinted that all donations would be gladly accepted.

grr, took me a bit of wandering their site to confirm that it really is (as the name implies) Windows-host only. That doesn't count as "more functional" in my book - windows is why we even *have* firewalls, real machines (that I need to log into from my clie) run unix :-)

https://sourceforge.net/projects/palmvnc2/
for a version of vnc2 that isn't stuck inside a windows app (the download page even has a raw prc if you want to download directly to your clie)

Then what you really need is a real remote login program like SSH :). I am waiting patiently for something that can handle hi-res fonts. TopDogSSH works but not well.

When I say more functional, I meant ease of use on my windows machine and Sony Clie. I am Mac and Linux challenged, I guess we have different books. :D

Hi all,
I am the current maintainer of PalmVNC 2.0. I feel I have to clarify my point of view regarding licencing and "charging"...
As you have pointed out, PalmVNC is covered by the GPL and hence can be freely distributed, used and modified, as long as the source code is also made available. Of course this still holds true for PalmVNC 2.0, since it is based on previous versions.
However, I ask that if you use the software on a regular basis, you register for the small amount of $10, as a small reward for the amount of work I have invested into it. Just to give you an idea, I took over a project that had been frozen for almost 2 years, and made it work on the latest generation of Palm handhelds, using both the Sony HiRes API and the Palm OS 5 high-density API; plus it has support for silkscreen minimizing...
This is not at all incompatible with the GPL, as it is explicitely stated there: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html
You will notice that the version you download is fully functional, with no time-limit, no "nag-screen" or unlock code; the contribution that I ask is on a purely voluntary basis, which is the true and original meaning of "shareware". Unfortunately, PalmGear doesn't have a distinct category for that kind of software, so I had to declare it as "shareware", while "donationware" would have been more appropriate.
The well-known McPhling, from Mike McCollister, is exactly in the same situation, although Mr. McCollister is not exactly making it obvious...
I hope this makes things clearer... if youstill have any questions, don't hesitate !
Best Regards,
OG

I have no problem with supporting an app if I am going to use it. I have tons of receipts to prove it :) The developer of MemHack for example, assumed that because the program was downloaded that it is being used. In my case I had downloaded it but, never used it because, it wasn't what I really wanted. With PalmVNC, I tried, it worked, it's kind of neat but, I really don't have a use for it and it had been deleted from my desktop PC and Clie.

That is perfectly fine with me... I'm not putting any limits (in time or functionality) to the trial, because I believe that this application can be very useful for some people, and I trust that people who really have a use for it will be willing to register.
I might as well prove wrong, but at least I'm not trying to conceal the fact that it is GPL software...

I wasn't questioning whether you had the right to charge or not. The web page had hinted that a donation would be appreciated. I have no problem with that. My point was that not everyone is trying to steal a program or take adavntage of the developer's good will, that's all. My beef was with the developer of MemHack and his attitude.
Thank you for the reply:)!

This is not a PalmVNC issue... as long as you can establish a TCP/IP network connection between your Palm and the VNC server, then PalmVNC will work.
So, the short answer is "YES"... :)
