View Full Version : MS free space disappeared!
I copied my MS contents to my PC, reformatted the MS and copied the contents back again. After this, I lost about 10MB of free space!:(
Can anyone help me to recover the space?? The MS is 256MB MSpro.:(

you have to format it using the clie's formatting funktion.
I don't know where it can be found, but you could try in your file app.
Thanks, but I did format it using the clie. And the space disappeared after that...:(
Please help:(

Run a scandisk on the MS. The file allocation table may be misreporting free space.
'Card Info' has a format option 'Unregistered'.
???, Did you notice the lost space after the format or only after you copied the data back?
What did you use to copy the data, standard file copy using MS Import?
What reported the lost space, 'Card Info' (installed app), 'Media Info' (tapping the mem stick icon in the status bar), or do both agree?
Also, is it a problem with the reported space free or actual - as in, if you fill it right up, are you 10 megs short?
And the last one (my apologies if this one insults your experiance, I'm just covering all I can think of), are you 10 megs short of what you think a 512MB card should be, or 10 megs short of what that particular card formatted in the exact same way as you just formatted it used to have?

Tha space is lost after copying the data back. I used my MS reader to do the copying. I tried with Data Import as well, but the results are the same:(
Everything on the clie and windows reported lost space. I should have had 24MB and now it only shows 13MB:confused:
The loss seems to be actual too:( I cant copy more files there.
I didn't compare it to the 256MB it said to have, but to the space it had before formatting. I ran scandisk as well.
I forgot whether I formatted the card before or not... would this be the problem? But I have been using the card in the clie for over 4 months already.

you can't just "lose" space. First, you realize that your MSPro is not actually going to give you 256MB of space, right? Second you should probably check 1 how much space you have right after a format before any transfer, and then check the exact size of the stuff you transfer before you put it on the card.
If you are still "losing" 13MB of space, then you may have a corrupt MSPro which is probably not the case considering if it was you would most likely not be able to use it at all.

Was this "lost space" ever usable? like, did you utilize more than what you have now so you are sure it's possible on your mem stick?
Sorry, I am not familiar with the MS:(
I found that when I do a MSbackup of my RAM, which has about 6MB of files, the backup folder became 15 MB on the MS. Why does this happen?:(
Is this normal for everyone?
I checked that the files are about 193MB on my PC, and becomes
224MB on the MS. The total is 238MB for the MS.
I am unable to use the lost space :(
Is there a possibility after formatting the MS in the clie, the same files take more space?

So You narrowed it down to your MSBackup folder becoming 15MB ?

Right click the folder on your PC and click properties. You'll notice there are two sizes listed "Size" and "Size on Disk." The "Size on Disk" is always lager than the "Size" and therefore the MS might be reflecting the "Size oin Disk" while your PC is just showing the "Size".
That seems to be the problem:(
every backup that should take 6MB becomes 15MB.
When I copied the backup to PC, it is 6MB.
The size on disk for the backup is less than 7MB...

If you are the desperate for the space then it sounds like your fast easy solution is to simply cut the backup folder to your computer and then transfer it back to the MS when needed.

When I copied the backup to PC, it is 6MB. Are you sure you're not keeping MULTIPLE back ups? Kinda sounds like it. :)
No, they are not multiple backups...
1 backup=15MB, 2 backups=30MB
I guess I will move the backup to my computer for now:(
Thanks anyway:)

interesting..
i wonder what you have on ur backup
because my backup reads
size: 6.74MB
size on disk: 8.34MB
and i have a ton of programs
I have 312 files in my backup. I do not have a lot of programs but the programs seem to have very small files(80bytes). And a lot of those a68k files...

your MS might be keeping some sort of an Index or some supporting file which could be using this "missing space" ... although 10 megs does sound too much ...
It is strange that the backup uses so much space only after formatting. It never used so much before...
Anyway it is good to hear that my MS is not corrupt:)
