So I am at my GF's house for Val. day since she is home sick. I bring over my portable DVD player and hook it up to her TV. She tells me there might be a problem because she lost her TV remote so she can't switch the tv to 'video' mode.

I thought for a second, pulled out my Clie, and used RMC to switch the input. She has a GE TV and luckily it worked on the first try. I didn't tell her what I was doing, I just did it. Anyway, after turning the input her face was in amazement...she was like, umm..how'd you do that. I explained it to her, and before she could finish, I said, umm...i'm not buying you a $500 remote control for your TV, don't ask.

Either way, the point of the story is that its a good app to have in 'emergency situations' and it really impressed her....it was Vals day and all...you figure out the rest.

Erik

What does this do? Send images on the MS via IR to the DVD player to view on the TV? Now that would be great! (Pretty slow for the lareger files though ;-)

The new Sony DVP-F41MS (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=bFrhPC8JRKLhMxFGFUfrN2AYKyE3qZyT9z4=?CatalogCategoryID=W8MKC0%2eNnEgAAADz8yz9zFwA&ProductID=OSUKC0%2eNM2UAAADzclH9zFwE&Dept=hav) has MS slot for ATRAC3 playback and viewing of jpeg files. More models are sure to follow. Sony even has a CD-RW drive that has a MS slot on it.

Also the new TiVo's and ReplayTV's will come with MS support for displaying photos. Rumor also has a WiFi enabled PVR. Imagine the possibilities.

Samsung DVD-P721M It can play back images either on the Memory Stick or on CD-ROM using the PlanetWeb browser. It also does MP3 on either media. It does progressive scan, and has beautiful styling.

Erm, don't all TV's automaticly switch to A/V channel when input is detected ?(when you press play etc) My 10y/p ITT and new Phillips both have it

nice situation and all though. I had some of those with my gf too...I can't afford to 'just give' her one, allthough I'd like that

Always fun to change channels on 1 of the TV's @ Burger King or McDonalds :D

I was in Applebees eating dinner with the fam with a TV overhead playing extreme jackass type sports. I really wanted to see the news and it hit me; I have the power to do this right in my hand.
I switched the channel and man, you should have seen the staff scurry when they noticed it. They kept asking each other who changed it and how no one was supposed to touch the tv.
Pretty cool.
Of course they had no idea. Wife didn't like it.

As soon as I saw the RMC app on my NX60, I immediately had plans to take it to the bar or a restaurant and have some fun. Imagine that there's a huge sporting event on TV and the game is coming down to being decided by a buzzer-beater. Get that remote ready, switch the channel right before the very end and watch the reaction. Of course, try to keep a straight face while doing it!

does the RMC have to be programmed (like universal remotes) or does it just pick it up?

Selachii

You need to select the brand of the TV...some brands have multiple 'modes' to select from.

There are no other programming/learning features.

With me, it worked straight away and I'm very pleased with the functionality

I use the RMC to change me neighbors channels. Go out for a smoke while it's dark walk over into his yard and flip the channels on him. Wigs him out every time. I laugh so hard he goes insane whacking the tv and all. Funny very funny!!!
