View Full Version : Why no accessories for SL10

I'm the proud owner of an SL10 but I've begun to get upset with the fact that I can't find accessories for it. For example, I would like to have a keyboard, a full sized keyboard. Sony used to have one but it was outrageously expensive (about $80) and then a thumb keyboard for like $59. But now Sony doesn't even offer the full-sized keyboard anymore. I've checked with all the 3rd party vendors and nobody makes one (Targus, etc) I've also not been able to find a serial cable, modem, or a cradle for it. Nearly every accessory I find that I think is going to work has a small note "does not work with SL series" somewhere. Why has Sony forsaken us and why do no third parties support this model?
Are any of the SJ-series accessories compatible to the SL10?

try a search on ebay, I think there are some wireless keyboards that should work with your sl-10. I recently saw a memory stick camera on ebay uk which is ok if you have not already got a small digital camera but I have 2 small low res cameras already. sony did make a game adaptor/cradle/thumb keyboard/bluetooth stick and other stuff for the sl-10 but the way to find it is to search for the serial nubers on ebay auctions
I got an sl-10 for xmas and think it is fantastic. for the price it is very versatile especially if you use the avant go program to update web content on it. other progs like mobi pocket reader allow you to read ebooks and subscribe to free web channels like avant go does. tomeraider is quite good too.
there are lots of quirky little progs that can do most things, i like to look on www.freewarepalm.com as it has loads of great stuff
i would really like to see a wi-fi memory stick but dont know if this is possible or if any company could be bothered but with all the wi-fi hotspots that are coming available it would be a boon. the sl-10 is an ideal machine as well, as the ability to use any AAA batteries leaves you never stuck for power as you can buy them at any convenience store. I am not sure how you deal with LiOn batteries after they run down, I think you can buy replacements and open up the case and fit em, but its not like having the flexability of regular AAA cells.
I am quite amazed at the sl-10 it reminds me of the pads used in star trek ng and is the sort of thing I dreamed of when I owned my first computer a sinclair/timex zx81 with 16k of ram in 1984
nice to see others appreciating this great little pda
all the best...paul

The problem is that the SL10 is too old of a unit. It is B/W os 4.0 33 mhz (I think) nad no Mp3.
Sorry :(, but f you want to be able to use the attachments you need a unit like the SJ33 or the SJ22

I recall readinbg on this site that the sony sa10 audio adaptor can be used to play mp3s and that some third party software allows you to play them in the background too while using another app. there is usually some sl-10 accessory on ebay, ive seen lately bluetooth memory sticks, ms cameras , psu,s wireless keyboards and thumb keyboards. the unit is seriously flexible owing to the AAA batteries meaning you dont have to rely on a cradle to charge up your lithium ion cell.

You can try the Palm Wireless keyboard, it may very well work for the SL since it uses the infrared connection.
It's about $50 on Amazon, not too bad for a Palm branded product.

I have been able to use my folding keyboard that I got for my SJ 33 on an SL10.

There are tons of accessories that work with the SL10. Virtually any accessory that has a T-series connector, and has a driver for PalmOS 4.1 (if even needed), will work. There are even some accessories, like the PEGA-SA10 audio adapter, that just need a few libraries from a compatible handheld to be installed (REF: http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread/t-20387.html).
As for keyboards, Sony's PEGA-KB11 AND PEGA-KB100 are compatible. As for other keyboards, Think Outside (the original inventor of the Stowaway keyboard, which Sony licensed for their PEGA-KB11) has their signature Stowaway Keyboard product, part number 90186; the same item is licensed to Fellowes under the same part number.
As well, Sony's PEGA-MSC1 Memory Stick Camera is compatible, as is Sony's PEGA-MSB1 Memory Stick Bluetooth Adapter. (In theory, all MSIO cards are supported.)
While Margi's Presenter-To-Go for Sony Clie is not listed on SonyStyle as working with the SL10, I'd be willing to bet that it does work. =)
So, as you can see, there are a lot of compatible accessories.

There are plans in the works by Sony and this company to produce MSIO Wi-Fi cards... http://www.hscjpn.co.jp/hscjpn/english/030328.html
Only problem is it looks like the Wi-Fi memory sticks won't be OS4 compatible - only OS5. =(

Hi!
I published some months ago the Hack in order to use Sony's Audio Adpater (the MP3 playback overprized toy) with the SL10.
You can download the hack from my web www.elmaquinas.com (http://www.elmaquinas.com) (sorry it is in Spanish but you will find it easely), it includes AudioPlayer 1.0, if you wish background playback use the avjmp3 player rather than AudioPlayer 2.x. Audioplayer 2.x still has problems on the SL10, it needs some libraries that are not compatible with the SL10.
It seems that Sony forgotten to put some libraries in the ROM
May be the same happens to the Keyboard that you mentioned, may be installing the right libraries helps you to get working the keyboard. I used an infrared laptop sized keyboard, works fine with the SL10.
Regards.

Don't forget the Belkin G700 keyboard - I just ordered one from www.belkin.com for $40USD plus shipping (there was a 50% off coupon floating around the web). Awesome keyboard, and it'll work with any Clié that has the T-series connector, including the SL-10.
I'm actually quite glad that Sony has decided to keep the T-series connector around for a while - it's still being used with newer models, AFAIK. That means that accessories that use that connector will also be around for a while.

This last bit of info has really helped! I have, indeed, found a full-sized keyboard for my SL-10! I haven't purchased one yet. I've been looking around for the best deal on a PEGA-KB11 or the Belkin version. But before I made this original post, I was under the impression that the SL-10 wouldn't work with any of the full-sized keyboards. as I mentioned in the post, every time I searched for the words "keyboard and SL10" in some kind of search engines, every keyboard that I found specifically said it does NOT work with the SL10. So anyway, that is great. I'm going to purchase one now!

I HIGHLY recommend the Belkin G700, especially if you order it directly from Belkin - their service is OUTSTANDING.

Talking about keyboards, I own a IR Keyboard from Citipack (http://www.citipack.com.tw), it is a laptop sized keyboard powered with one AAA battery.
It works pretty perfect with the SL10.

the SL10 blows in my opinion. its more of something u give to your mother for the grocery list. the sl10 is old . if u know sony its out with the old and in with the new. ofcourse they dont sell accessories for it.

The SL10 is just about as old as your SJ30 - they came out at approximately the same time.
And, because it has the same connector and form factor, pretty much any of the accessories for your SJ30 should work with the SL10.

To each his own, eh?
The SL10 may not be the most advanced whiz-bang PDA out there, but at least for me, the price was right (yay for birthday money and open box specials! w00t!). Besides, as has been mentioned before (and is the purpose of this thread), nearly every single accessory with a T-series connector, regardless of manufacturer, works with the SL10.
It's not a UX50, but it works perfectly for me.

I find my old SL-10 still had value for me. There are times I am waiting for long periods of time at places where I do not have access to recharge my other one. I just carry an extra set of batteries and pop them in when necessary.
