View Full Version : Sun StarOffice 6.0 on PDA?

I'm seriously considering giving up on Microsoft Office and getting Star Office 6.0 or Ability Office.

Will I still be able to view my word processed and spreadsheet files on my NX60? Is there any PDA apps that will do this? Bear in mind that both ability and Star are fully compatible with Microsoft Office.

I'm currently using Documents to Go.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Considering? Just do it! Generally a good programm would convert to word alone, but for example Wordsmith uses a macro to do this, so it won't work with DOCs in StarOffice. But there's still the trusty command-line-to-rtf-tool which works great for me (I have a batch file which checks for file dates and then converts the newer file to overwrite the older file)

I have Open Office 1.0 and it syncs with Docs 2 Go.

And Open Office is virtually identical to Star Office, but it's free!

I use M$ office at work and I sync Sheet to Go there because I use the reports feature in Excel. Maybe Open Office can do this, but I haven't put the time into checking it out.

Thanks for the replies, it's made me 100% certain to switch to StarOffice. I know openoffice is identical and free, but star is only £32, and you get support, manuals and greater templates etc.

Microsoft is almost £500, which is shocking!

Star Office or even the open source version is a superb way of getting the useful bits of MS Office without spending BIG $ for the useless bits ;->

But i would like to see more integration with the Palm office apps if possible.

Hy,
well I found my way back to Staroffice- finally. So now I stick with 5.2 for it is free. Does anybody know how to sync emails with Staroffice and the Clié?
I don't want to change to Eudora or Outlook but stick with SO for its great Desktop integration.
And a bit Off-Topic: know how to integrate the new OpenOffice Writer into the old SO desktop?
thanx

My first real experience with Open Office was this past week.  I was attempting a mail merge.  It required a spread sheet with the addresses laid out in columns.  I created the ss and saved it.  Then I went to mail merge...it complained the ss was invalid, so I tried to open it through windoze explorer and got the same error.
