View Full Version : Clie @ 30,000 Feet

Recently on a flight to Los Angeles from Portland I pulled my trusty 665 out on the plane at 30,000 or so feet and discovered that the digitizer didn't work. I tried everything on off, reset and even a hard reset thinking that my Graffiti anywhere program was being dumb. When I landed in Los Angeles I was frantic wondering what should I do, when I pulled it out one last time and noticed that it was working again on the ground? I tried it again on the flight back, yet again no digitizer, it's just too bad I forgot my backup memory stick. Two days without bejeweled, bummer. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Nope. My N760 works great on planes. Haven't tried my NR70v yet. (Usually use the N760 because the battery life is better.)

Jayman:
There have been a couple of other threads on this issue, one before and one after the "Cliesource Crash" (maybe do a search using the word airplane).
The exact same thing as you described happened to me when I owned a T415. I have not flown with my T665 to see if I will have the same issue.
The consensus seemed to be that a combination of the air pressure in the plane, plus something to do with the tight fit of the screen, might be causing this.

I just spent almost 2 weeks flying different places and had no problems at all with my T665. I played games, listened to MP3's all with no problem.

On a flight from Chicago to Miami, my heart collapsed when I tried to use my T615 on board. I, too, had the digitizer problem. I was getting worried...blaming the airport of frying my Clie. I was even thinking about doing a hard reset but my backup memory stick was left at home, so I decided to wait until we landed. I tried it again when we landed and everything was back to normal. You have no idea how relieved I was...

I have my T615 from Hong Kong to UK, UK to Toronto, Toronto to Vancouver, Vancouver to Sydney...works during every flight.
When you said "30,000 feet", I hope you were trying to use it in a "pressurised cabin". :D
Airlines were: BA, CX, CA, Qantus

I had the same problem when flying to California. The digiter would stop working, however the Clie continued to fuction so I just used the hard buttons, scroll wheel and back button. But it was a nuisance. As soon as I walked out of the cabin it worked, however when we were still taxiing it didn't work. At least I am not alone in this problem. I forgot to mention: I have a T415.

My Nx freaked on a couple of runs; Chicago to Houston, Houston to New Orleans, and Atlanta back to Chicago. All Continental each flight.
Entire system locks and beeps until I pin reset. When it cycles back, it happens again. Those flights I had to give up working with it altogether. Other flights I've taken - no problems at all.
Only commonality those three flights other than the airline was that I was sitting on the emergency aisle each time; center of the cabin and close to the jets. The other flights where it worked, I'm nowhere near the engines. Is that the source of the problem? Who knows but I did notice the seat in common each time.
I fly very frequently and have never experienced this with my 665C. Various airlines, several trips a month. Not a single time has this happened.

I've flown Rochester, MN to Chicago a bit and haven't had a problem with my 665. But, the plane only climbs to the low 20K feet...is there a correlation between height and dysfunction? Brian

Brian:
My T415 seemed to freeze whenever I flew - Chicago to Colorado Springs on United, Chicago to Philadelphia on US Airways, Philadelphia to Manchester, England, on US Airways. I think those flights were all above 30k feet.

I believe my last flight from St. Louis to Newark was at 36,000 ft. and I didn't have a problem.
