i just downloaded handyshopper (2.7.3) which supports hires-icons now; that looks so much better than before. also icon manager (1.1) from the same developer supports edition of hires-icons even under os 4.1 now.
big question now:
does anybody now further apps with support for hires icons (under both 4.1/5.0); from all i know, agendus unfortunately does only support them under 5.0.
how do you overall us icons with calender or to do list apps? i find them a good way to work more intuitive instead of just having text lists.

You can use v3bhack for HiRes icons in Agendus, ...

yes but use v3bhack with caution... several people have reported hard resets using this hack.
DateBK developer promised to include hires icon support in next preview (7 or 8).

Agendus supports the hires icons for handyshopper! Plus the same developer makes IconManager which allows you to create your own hires icons and convert to hires, etc...
But beware, IconManager can only be purchased from Palmgear.com. See the "General" thread for the hooror story I experienced with Plamgear when I tried to by this excelent software

So, the hi-res icons are only hi-res for OS5! The others have to use v3bhack?

Yes the sad thing is for us old Palm 4.1 OS user we can not have Hi-Res Icon in the main OS. Only launcher has the ablity to use hi-res icons. It would be very nice when Palm has to release the new Palm 4.1.2 OS that they include the double density icon resolution, but I know they would never do anything like that.

Chris Antos, the developer of Handyshopper and IconManager, sent CESD, the developer of DB5, code that will allow the high-density icons to be used by OS4 Clie devices. CESD has promised to incorporate this into a beta version of DB5, probably the p8 beta.

hmm, sounds good for DBk-Users, the hires-icon-support (in 4.1) of handyshopper is already great; unfortunately i'm an agendus-users; so I better check out "v3bhack"?

I recently down loaded zlauncher on my clie sj30 and am able to have it display hires icons. Agendus and several other applications who apparently support os5 now display hires icons in the launcher mode. Very nice and unexpected on my 4.1 os. Try it out!

Hi,
I installed v3bhack a while ago (and no probs until now *huh*).
Now tried to get HighRes icons running in Agendus. When I edit an event I can choose tehm, but in the calender they dont appear :/ I think they are to big?!? When I disable "High Resolution Display" in the Agendus Prefs they work fine.
Seems to be a bad Joke, HighRes Icons only with Low Res Calender-view *g*, cannot see the logic behind.
Should it normally work and i'm too stupid or am i right?!?

those aren't the kind of icons that are being referred to. launchers have been able to do that stuff for at least a year or so. They are talking about the mini icons within programs for notations, appointments, etc.
A new JFile was released recently and I noticed it says it can now display hires icons. I haven't tried it as I don't really have any use for JFile but it is nice to know more programs are supporting it.

requested hires-support with iambic; like some others already did; hope that there will be an update soon; as mentioned: handyshopper shows how it can be done.
Am I missing something here. Agendus on my T665 is using Hires icons from Handyshopper.

Yes, you can get the "low-res" version of the handyshopper icons to work. I am definate that you are not using the "hi-res" ones...
Even if you have selected the hi-res Handy Shopper icons in Icon Manager, Agendus will use the low-res version of the same icons.

You know, it's funny, I never thought hi-res icons would make a big difference, but all I can say is WOW!
They look AWESOME!!!

V3bHack seems conflit with ZLauncher icon. If V3bHack is installed and enabled, whenever ZLauncher Icon needs to be displayed will cause a software reset. Even the "About" window will cause a software reset when V3bHack is enabled.
I'm using SJ30 and XMaster, this happens to me all the time. Don't know how to solve it yet.
Any idea about this? Anyone else has the same experience like me? Thanks anyway.

For Palm OS 4.x devices -
Get AppIcon
Get Icon Manager 1.1 (Chris Antos)
- register for editing capabilities (worth it!!!)
Install XMaster (hack manager)
Install v3bHack http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-PaloAlto/7022/v3bhack.html
Activate v3bHack in XMaster
Soft Reset (may not be necessary but just to be safe)
Result on my T665c:
- beautiful icons in Agendus (use low-res display setting to best enjoy the hi-res icons - larger)
- beautiful hi-res icons on the mainscreen!

Go here: http://www.pocketsensei.com/hires.htm
I recommend: Fenestrae, Bebop, and Vista to download. When you look inside the zip file, extract the largest of the .pdb files. That will be the os5 hi-res one. Drop them in your Install Tool, sync, and open Appicon. Drop down menu and select "Set," and "Import." After a second, you should see the three (or whatever files) you installed. Highlight one and select "OK."
Once you've imported them, you can delete the original .pdbs since Appicon actually copies them into its own db. Enjoy! ;)
I have converted all of my Agendus collection of icons to hi-res, over 255 of them. Even made a few of my own. I'm no artist, but it really is fairly easy to make nice ones once you get the hang of it. For instance I made a PBX (phone system) since I'm in telecommunications that looks pretty close to a real one. I'll use that fairly often.

Normally my personal policy has been to avoid using "hacks" period, but I wanted hi-res icons in Agendus real bad! :) I use YiShow launcher and have been running this hack for a week with no problems. It is the only hack (using XMaster) I run. Just upgraded Agendus to 6.02 and again, have not experienced any forced resets. This thread will be the first to know if I do run into problems.
I guess that because we all have different mixtures of "stuff" on our PDAs, we get varying results with different apps. No wonder developers go stark raving mad after a while! :D

After 2 hard resets I have finally had success with the v3b hack. I am using tealmaster as the hack manager to avoid any conflicts. For the default profile I have v3b hack disabled, for profile B, I have it enabled. Profile B is activated only when using Agendus or Datebk5 to get the high res icons. This is the safest setup because the hack is active only in Agendus or whichever app you choose. If you use X master, the hack is active in all the programs which can cause resets in programs from splashdata (about box) and Z launcher. Also make sure that your icon set does not have any low res icons.

So far I haven't had any serious problems with v3bhack. I have had the issue of the system hanging when trying to look at the ZLauncher About screen but so far nothing else. then again, I have not tried zoomed icons in ZLauncher so that might be a good reason why I haven't had many crashes.
As far as the hi-res icons go, they look very nice. I will likely be posting a set of my own icons on the Icon Manager Yahoo group in a few days. It will be completely free and will have an eclectic group of icons (Solar System objects, Univ. of Arizona logo, a few other logos from sports and TV).

With v3bHack loaded, Datebk5 locks up when reading an icon file containing hi res icons. I've written to the author, but no response yet.

There have been several mentions of CESD's "promise" to include hires icon support on pre OS5 devices. Thought I should let you know that this was never a promise, just that he would look into it. He has recently re-affirmed that the decision to include support has not yet been made.

Despite the fact that I have been able to get v3bhack to work (at least with Datebk5) I still hope CESD puts support for hi-res icons in pre-OS5 clies. Enough people have reported major issues with the hack to make it not seem like a viable solution and the hack writer doesn't seem very responsive to queries. CESD has code for the hi-res icons to work so it is not like he has to write the support completely from scratch.

Disabled all hacks and PiDirect--no change in behavior. The only other thing that comes to mind is JackFlash, but that doesn't interface with any bitmap drawing routines.
Do you have any high density icons in your DB5 icon data set? I have quite a few. That could be the difference if none of your DB5 icons were high density.

About a third of my icons that I use for Datebk5 now have hi-density versions. All of the ones I use on an almost daily and weekly basis are now high density. JackFlash shouldn't be it because I have Datebk5 in ROM. Let's see, what Launcher are you using and do you use large or small icons for your launcher. I use ZLauncher and I have had problems when trying to view zoomed icons. Using the smaller icons in ZLauncher has not caused any problems.

I use DateBK5 and love it. I also use HandyShopper and updated it. Beware of trying to update your icons in with the dbIcon+ application. It caused a hard reset on my T665. I had to restore to my backup... did a backup just in case. I love the high resolution icons, but will wait for DateBK's new version... soon, I hope!!! In the meantime, I deleted the high resolution icons from Handyshopper which now looks at my DateBK5 icons package for its icons. Does anyone know if that will screw up my Handyshopper application?

You are absolutely right. They do make a huge difference. Because I cannot yet get them to work in my main application, DateBK5, I have decided not to use them in HandyShopper. I get too disappointed when I see what I am missing. This way, I won't go and do something stupid like buy OS5 Clie and NOT wait for the super PDA with the 32 Meg's of RAM, 300 MHz processor, 320x480 high resolution screen without the keyboard, and the switchable battery. Now, that I would gladly give my T665 away for.

dbIcon+ doesn't support high density icons. You have to use IconMgr 1.1. The free version has limited copying ability, but I believe that it provides full functionality otherwise. I'm not positive about that, but I registered the full version. It does automatic conversions and some nice management functions--well worth the minimal price.

jscottcj, think Datebk 5's latest version has support included like Handyshopper 2 does. I solved the problem another way: just upgraded to a NX70 ;-) Believe me, it's the best thing one can do.

Sorry that I missed the first part of your question. Datebk5c, Preview 8 supports high density icons in OS 4.1. I'd recommend waiting for preview 9, as there have been some growing pains in this preview. It's the first REAL beta test for Datebk5 in a long time. Most of his previews are more stable than the competition's release versions. You can get the previews on PimlicoSoftware's Yahoo! group.

Thanks to all who responded...
I'm up & running with IconMgr and Datebook 5... only downside is Datebook 5 only allows 255 icons to be used per set...
The registered version of M3 HD icons is like 900 strong... whew!
I've downloaded the newest preview of Datebook 5, however, my clie files, displays it as still being version 5.0b, not 5.0C or preview 8. Anyone else experience that headache???

If I use ZL's info it says 5.0b.
If I go into Datebook and look at the 'About' it says v5.0c, p8.

Every time I attempt to import ZL icons into AppIcon, AppIcon freezes and I have to totally uninstall and reinstall AppIcon to fix the problem.
Is anyone else having this problem?
