Hi guys,
I'm new here and I'm from Singapore. An I really need advise getting a pda either from Palm or Sony. I set my sight on the Palm 515 or the Clie33
I'm pretty much a Mac user all my life and this is the first time I'm seriously considering the sony Clie33 which is the latest pda from SOny.
My question is does it sync well straight out of the box with the Mac? I'm using the latest Mac OS.10.2.4/ Especially when it comes to mp3 and all.
I know that Palm can sync with the Mac but how abt the Clie33? And what's a missing synch I always heard abt? Where can I get it? Do I need extra peripherals to get synch with Mac using the Clie?
I really hope you could help me here. i really like the Clie but when it proves to be a hassle to synch and needed another party of peripherals to hot synch I doubt i'll go for it.
Your advises is much appreciated.
thank you.
cheers

missing sync is a program that lets the clie sync with the mac (it is what sony should have put in the box to begin with). once you have that installed, all the clies with sync with a mac running os 9.x or 10.x.
get the clie, you will never regret it.

Hi Parmesian,
Thks for the reply BUT that means I HAVE to purchase the Missing Sync. How abt trying out iSync provided by MacOS?
And is it true once I get the Missing Sync, all is smooth running be it iTunes, iPhoto and other apps?
Thanks!

i have had mixed success with isync. some days it worked well, others it did nothing but frustrate me. missing sync has always worked.
with missing sync you are also able to mount the memory stick on the desktop like another hard drive. this makes file transfers possible and is much faster than syncing (especially good for big files or backing up data from the memory stick to the mac's hard drive). it will also give you conduits for transfering mp3s with itunes and photos with iphoto.
i know i struggled with having to pay another 30USD for missing sync, but now i think it is a no brainer. if you are willing to pay a little more to have a mac and a little more to have a sony, it only makes sense that you should be willing to pay a little more to have them work together perfectly.

Yup Parmesian!
I really set my sights on the NEw Clie SJ33 but after browsing through the Missing Sync website I discover some dun really support iTunes/iPhoto. How can I confirm this? Thanks
Yu've been a great help!!!!

i don't believe the sj33 has capabilities for mp3s built in. i think you have to buy an additional accessory set. if that is the case you will probably not get much use out of the transfer conduits for itunes, but you should probably check with the sony folks to be sure. i could not get any info on the sony site becuase the sj33 is not available in the states.

thanks for the link. since it obviously has mp3 capabilities, you should definitely get missing sync. the folks at markspace are usually quick about making missing sync compatible with new devices (if it is not already compatible). this is, of course, imho.

Ok Parmesian,
That means I'll wait till Markspace to develop one. I just emailed them, hoping to get some answers. Will let you know as well bro.
Thanks!!!

Hello, I have been using Macs forever and have cad a number of Clie's from the PEG300 to my current NX70V. All I can say is the Clie' rules over any other PDA out there feature for feature, and while it does not sync out of the box (missing sync needed) once things are in place......you'll love the combo. Using Qtime, Itunes and Iphoto...nothing like it!
Well worth the $ and min hastle.
My .02, good luck

I've seen the m515 up close, and I'd go with the Clie for the screen alone. No contest!

HIYA,
OK guys, Markspace reply stating that the New Sony Clie SJ33 works with Missing Sync 3.0.5 which is still under beta testing.
And now the good news, I just receive my Black Clie SJ33...cool and pretty light. As of now, I've yet to try it out as it need 4 hours or more according to sales person for a charge. So now I'm eagerly awaiting...tick tock...
So question now is, should I download the Missing Synce 3.0 now or should I wait?
Thanks!

Been following this dialogue as a mac owner since my Mac SE, now with imac and g4 powerbook, want to ask the proud owner of his black SJ33 how light and small it feels in comparison to the sj30 and the 615T and the 665T.
I was told that it was heavier and thicker. What is your experience? I was also told that for those not needing the MP3 part, that the SJ20 version upgrade, who knows what the model number will be, would be cheaper and maybe lighter. I know they said the sj33 would be heavier because of the larger battery in it.
So if anyone knows about the other model that would be helpful too. But I would like to know how you are liking your new toy.
many thanks
mark
