View Full Version : New Battery. How Long 2 Charge?
BB just sent me a replacement battery for my NZ. Do I really have to let it charge for 24 hours? If this battery doesn't work better thant the original, I will have to settle for the tiny screen UX 50. :(
Do I really need to let this battery charge for 24 hours like the instructions say?

MAJI:
According to the green PEG-NZ90 hand book that you recieved with your Clie it takes 4 hours to charge the smart lithium polymer battery. However there is much more that you need to know.
First PLEASE read the Cliesource thread on NZ90 battery. It will contain helpfull tips on proper battery use.
Second, there are 5 important tips from that thread that will allow you to get the most from the PEGABP500 battery.
Before I list these points, you should know that there has been reports on Cliesource that the earlier batchs of the batteries were defective and could not hold a proper charge. At the present time this defect has been corrected in the new batch of batteries manufactured by Sony.
A) Go to the Sony Clie support page for your country and download the CliecamS and CliecamS library program V1.1 into your NZ90. There have been reports by NZ90 users on Cliesource that it reduces battery drain when you use the camera with the flash.
B) The smart lithium polymer battery life does NOT like deep discharges( draining battery life below 10%on the meter). It will lose the ability to hold an electric charge over a long period of time. There have been reports on cliesource by SOME NZ-90 users that after a deep discharge they charged their unit for 24 hours and reported a dramaitic increase in battery life of up to 13hours. not all NZ-90 units will have such a long lasting battery.
C) After you have used your fully charged NZ-90 and drained the batteries to at least 20% you can put it back on the cradle and leave it there as long as you want. After 4 hours the amber charge light will go out and the battery will stop accepting power from the AC outlet even though it will stay fully charged until you take it off the cradle.
D) The smart Lithium polymer battery can be topped(charged in the cradle) up at charges level at or above 20%. The battery "appears" to improve in performance as a result of this procedure
E) Reduce your screen brightness to the lowest setting that is acceptable to you. This procedure will prolong battery life.
F) If you have more than one battery you can cycle the used and new one.
G) MOST IMPORTANTLY break in the battery by pushing its performance to its limit before it needs to be charged.
I hope these tips have been helpfull
cheers
