View Full Version : Anyone tried the Palm Tungsten T3?

My last two palms have been Clies - Sony Peg N770 and NX70 - but I'm getting a little tempted to investigate the new Palm Tungsten T3 - I like the compact size and landscape format and have recently been finding my NX70V just a little too big for my needs.
Anyone here tried the Tungsten? What's good/bad about it and how does it compare to the latest Sony range (I'm also considering the new TJ35).
Opinions gratefully received!

Why don't you try a search on 'Tungsten'. There were a LOT of discussion when it first came out . . . I'm sure you'll find something helpful to you. Looks like everybody that got one went to www.PalmOneCity.com . . . :)

I'm still here (occasionally) & I have a T3, but -YR- is right. Most of us have jumped over to other sites, including POC. There is even an entire thread over there about Clie to Palm converts.

IMO a real nice PDA, really nice.
Somehow I am partial to swivel screens vs the slider.
BUT =( its the PDA I recommend...

If your looking at the TJ-35, a more comparable palm would be the Tungsten E. Go to www.brighthand.com and read the review on it. For 30-50 USD cheaper, it looks like the T E has more to offer!! BTW, I have a T E and love it!!!

I switched to the T3 a little over a month ago. Great PDA and like Yellow Rose said, I'm hanging out at PalmOneCity.com. At least it's a board run by the same nice folks as Cliesource.

I made the switch from a NX60 to a TT3. I too found the NX60 too big and cumbersome to carry around in a business way. Here are a few thoughts:
If the most important thing you want a PDA for is multimedia, you may want to consider sticking with a Clie. Clies still do multimedia better than PalmOnes.
If you want your PDA primarily for business use, that is, little interest in multimedia, then the TT3 may be for you. Don't get me wrong, it will do multimedia, but in this area Clies are still king.
The TT3 does have some shortcomings:
One, it had an appetite for devouring SD cards--it ate one of mine. Supposedly that is fixed now.
Second, the battery life is not as good as your NX70, but it is okay.
Third, not as many applications will use the HiRes+ screen on the TT3 as will on the NX70. PalmOne uses different APIs than Sony, so it will take a while for developers to modify their apps, but they will.
Fourth, no included app like MS Import. You'll have to buy a third-party import app or a card reader.
Overall, the TT3 is a great PDA, nevertheless I returned mine before they fixed the SD card problem. My 30 days return policy was almost up and at the time no fix was in sight. I decided to wait on purchasing another high-end handheld until OS 6 devices are available and well tested. I currently own a TT2, and yes I miss the HiRes+ screen of the X60, but I'm glad I now have the TT2 rather than the NX60. It is much easier to carry and has all the features I need, not to mention a terrific screen.
