What clieZilla2 said about possible CF drivers from Sony in the other thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3544&perpage=40&pagenumber=2) made me think about some things...

i would suggest you turn it around quickly though... there are some rumors about sony releasing one (and we can assume that one would be free) or other companies releasing them for their products specifically... strike while the iron is hot my friends!!!

Since PalmOS 5.02 (or is it 5.2?) is out, Sony should update the NX series with the new version. We also know that Sony is making MSPro drivers for the NX series. So it is possible that in the near future a big update for us NX users is in store.

Now, what if Sony included CF drivers in that big bundle of software updates? T'would be cool, eh? Yet, people from Sony have said that they read these forums, so they know how much people would pay for these CF drivers. According to what some people consider as Sony's philosophy (the more $$$ the better), wouldn't Sony put the update out (including the OS update, MSPro, and CF Drivers) and CHARGE FOR IT?

So the question is, since you guys (and me!) are so willing to give 3rd party developers money for CF drivers, would you be willing to give Sony that same money for something that they should have been included for free in the first place?

I know its just useless speculation, but it is interesting.

Wishful thinking that an OS update would even be forthcoming, so don't hold your breath! BTW, if there is an OS update, don't expect it to be free.

Interesting....
I think it's a different matter though. If Sony played that trick, then it will be the LAST Sony PDA I ever buy.

Yea, Like Compaq that tell iPAQ users they can upgrade from WinCE3.0 to PPC2002 with exptr $$$. I'll bet $ony will do the same... In that case if OS upgrade come with CF Driver, I'll pay for it. If it's around $50.00

I certainly would not want to give Sony anymore money for a driver that should have already been included with the device.

Although I'd love to be able to take advantage of CF memory cards, I do understand that Sony wants to push its memory stick format. So, I'd be (just barely) willing to pay for a driver to use CF memory cards. This way, its win-win. Sony benefits because they'd make some money from me that I would have normally spent on at least one memory stick and I win because I'm no longer bound to their format.

However, and here's the point I want to stress, the fact that Sony wants to push the memory stick should not prevent us from being able to use the CF slot for non-memory devices. Consequently, I would *not* pay Sony for a driver that allowed me to use the CF slot for non-memory devices. Such a driver should be forthcoming and it should be FREE.
