I'm experiencing some weird behavior in WA Clock and Datebook when I set alarms.  Let's say I set an alrm for 4pm and when 4pm comes around, my clie is off.  So it turns on and then shows me the OK, SNOOZE,GOTO dialog, but there's no sound, just the LED and I can't hit any of the buttons.  Then the LED goes off and then the sound comes on and then I can hit the buttons.

Does this seem weird to anyone else?

Also, if I hit snooze, the alarms never seem to go off again...what's up with that?  Do I have a defective Clie?  I did a hard reset to make sure and I still get the same behavior on my SJ30.

plz help.

The lack of sound happens to me if I have FastCPU for WAClock (or whatever the alarm-originating app) set above 33. Don't use the LED setting (not much use when one uses the alarm to wake up from a NAP!). Might be related.

Well, FastCPU is not installed...this is a fresh hard reset so it doesn't have anything but what comes on the Clie.

It's not that there's no sound, it's just that first for like 20 seconds there's no sound just the LED, then the LED goes off and the sound comes on. This is both for datebook and WA clock.  This doesn't make sense...why would the LED come on with no sound...I would think they should work together.  And here's the worst part, for those 20 seconds the LED is on, I can't do anything to the Clie, it's like it is frozen.

If I go to System-Preferences-General and set Alarm LED off, I obviously don't get this behavior.

But is this crap normal?  I thought the LED is supposed to blink while the sound goes off, not just be on and freeze the clie w/o any sound.

Do i have a defective model?

Just tested it on my SJ30, and soung and LED came on at the same time...so must be something unique to your unit.

If you haven't reinstalled anything, try another hard reset (grasping here).

Otherwise, without anything but native stuff loaded, sounds like a possible hardware issue.

Ok here's something interesting...if I turn the backlight down, it functions exactly as you described. However with backlight anything but all the way down, it will screw up as I mentioned above.   This is definitely not normal because I've got like 50% power, it doesn't take much to make that noise.

Are we looking at a possible low voltage issue? Or maybe just a backlight issue?

EDIT:  Even when it's plugged in, it freaking does this.  This sucks!!!  I can't set alarms w/o it screwing up everything.

Tried adjusting the backlight to several positions, and the alarm/LED in WAClock acted normal. Seems to be something with your unit specifically. Time to call Sony?

I went right back to bestbuy and got a replacement. It was the last one they had too.

hope this one works out as this is my second replacement...first one had a bad screen.
