Hi-- I'm still learning how my new tj25 works. Does anyone know why my lower case graffiti strokes would be registering as uppercase? (and sometimes vice-versa).

any advice is appreciated!

and, Happy New Year!

This may not help - I could be wrong 'cos I've not had mine long either ...

But you know the graffiti area is split into two halves yeh? Lower case on left, numbers on right, and to get capitals you have to write on the boundary between the two.

Took me ages to figure that out lol, cos I never read the instructions

Mikeboy...

you are absolutely correct. When you write in the border area between letters and numbers, you get the capitals. That's a feature of Graffiti 2. Gosh, I miss Graffiti 1!!!!!!

Yannis,

You still haven't "downgraded" to graffiti-1? I gave up trying to re-learn graffiti-2 (couldn't dot my i's & cross my t's) after too many years on original Palm Pilots. Here's the thread again if you need the files/instructions....http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34466&highlight=graffiti . Then i also installed CrossingOver (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&sid=6BCDC1AE-88BC-42BC-955143B4BCC70B36&prodID=45513) to preserve the only feature i liked about G-2, the caps feature. Both work fine on OS 5.2 on my TJ25.

I was hopping I would get used to this thing, but to no avail... I had saved the site when you gave it to me sometime ago and was debating whether I should do it. But now you have talked me into it. I am gona do it!....

Thanks

Yannis

Yesssssssss!!!!!!

I've done it! Welcome back my good ol' Graffiti 1!!!!! It works great and so does the Crossover! Thanks a million drglew!

The only thing I can't figure how to do is the capital "I"...lol...But who cares. I can still make it with the old method.

Yannis

PS. BTW...do you guys know why they went to Graffiti 2? It was not for any "imporvement". It was because Xerox filled a suit against Palm for copyright infrigments over the old graffiti. Apparently Xerox had something similar and that's why Palm changed to #2....Just a bit trivia...

rocki934, Decuma is a handwriting system that you train to write the way you print. You get to it by pressing the little A on the graffiti area. It's what I use because I'm new to Palm.

I had Jot, which is what grafitti 2 is based on, on another PDA, a Helio. I could never get used to it. Those of you that are more experienced, do you think the original graffiti is better than decuma, or are you just so used to graffiti 1? lan

I got so used to writing in grafitti that I found myself writing in grafitti even on paper. Someone would look at my writing, which is bad enough as it is, and say is he on drugs or something?

rocki934,

If you're not already "trained" on old Graffiti-1, there's probably not much of a point in reverting from Graffiti-2. In fact, G-2 may be a bit more "natural" if you're new to text entry on a handheld, i.e. you won't have as many special characters. Basically G-1 required single strokes (without lifting the stylus) for all characters besides "X". G-2 makes you dot I's, cross T's, etc., and many other letters looking more natural.

If you do choose to install G-1, do NOT install via a hotsync or your unit will crash. Copy the files to memory stick or beam them to your unit (as in the instructions).

Decuma is a 3rd party app for handwriting recognition included with the TJ35, but not TJ25. There are other apps available for purchase as well. I hear Decuma is annoying because the interface blocks half of the screen...

I don't think you can make a capital "I" on the CrossingOver program (at least I can't), but it's a small loss.

Happy New Year....gotta get off this computer!

while I haven't switched back to Graffiti 1, I used to make the "x" without lifting the stylus, like all the other characters.

To make a capital 'I' in G-2, just write it normally, but exactly between the letters and numbers sections, right underneath the little markers. Works for me.

Oh, that's right, decuma doesn't come with the TJ 25. But you can purchase it now. I don't mind so much that it takes screen space. When you get so far you get an arrow & you can scroll the document under the decuma. The i was one of the letters that gave me trouble in Jot. It would be interpreted as something else before I could get the dot in. lan

I used to use Jot, but now Graffiti2 ( by CIC Jot mfg.) comes with the NX800V. The only problem is Jot let you write anywhere on the screen, but G2 does not seen to allow this. I sent question re same to CIC and they told me to activate "write on screen " with the system preferences. But this option is not available. Anyone figure this out?.

Nikki205,

Graffiti2 is only the character set/penstrokes....it alone doesn't give the capability of writing anywhere (that was the Jot program specifically). Here's a potential freeware solution....Graffiti Anywhere (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=6BCDC1AE-88BC-42BC-955143B4BCC70B36&prodID=45227) .
