O.K. Topic heading aside... I just came back from the dead and the world has changed. The question I have is:

What does the NZ do that would make you happily carry around a half-brick?

I have just now decided to upgrade to the NX from the NR (these N's are getting tricky to keep straight...) because of the camera and the video. At this rate, the N-line will be competing with palm sized video recorders, and THEY do a better job in a better form-factor. I really like the idea that I can take pictures with my organizer but I also am aware of and quite happy with the limitations.

I also wonder what the reaction to this in Japan is. Observations aside I would love to hear reaction from ground zero. So if anyone is posting from Japan, please respond!

Well, The NZ has adedicated voice recorder button now. That might interest you. Of course pics and vid will be better(higher resolution). www.brighthand.com has a good hands on review plu pics. Also www.palminfocenter.com or you could go straight to www.sonystyle.com if you need the specs.

WOW! Thanx! For me the size factor is a BIG issue. This element alone takes the NZ out of the running for me. I am very curious at how people are reacting to the form factor. Personally the better picture and video quality are not good trade offs. I WOULD want the flash but my cell phone is a pretty good voice recorder so I won't use that particular function.

I don't know about the NX70, but my NX60 already has a dedicated voice record button.

the 70 has a capture button that you can swing from the voice recorder to the cam, to the movie recorder. If I'm not mistaken the voice recorder button on the NZ is solely for that - the recorder.

i was under the impression that the video capture resolution on the nz is the same as the nx.

spcs for the nz:
• Camera Specifications
Effective pixels: 2 mega pixels
Imager: 1/2.7 CCD image sensor (2,110k gross pixels)
Lens: F2.8 focal length f=5mm (35mm film conversion f=approx. 33mm)
Focus range: 0.1m to infinity
Picture size (JPEG images): 1600x1200, 1600x1072(3:2), 1280x960, 800x600, 640x480, 320x480, 320x240
Picture size (movie): 160 x 112
Picture / movie format: JPEG (DCF), Movie Player Format, MPEG movie (playback only)
2x Digital Zoom
Auto focus
Manual exposure adjustment (±2EV, 1/3EV Steps)
White balance (Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Incandescent, Custom)
Scene modes (Normal, Twilight, Twilight Portrait)
Flash modes (Auto, Forced Off, Forced On)
Flash level (High, Normal, Low)
Red-eye reduction
Flash effective range (0.5 to 1.5m)
Picture effect (Black & White, Sepia)
Video output (NTSC / PAL selectable, JPEG still picture only)
Self-timer function

it says picture size for video is the same as the nx. (160x112)

if it was better at video, i would consider the nz. 200$ for upgrades that i will barely use pushes me away.

reactor:>>> concensus from japan....this product is butt-ugly. Blame the americans (sony-usa) for this monstrosity.
This product is not even acknowledged on the www.sonystyle.co.jp site as of yet...

(all i am asking is for a nx-70 with built-in bluetooth*)

Check the date, Eric. At the time of that post, it wasn't on the jp site.

As to the rest of his post, while he's entitled to his opinion, I'm also entitled to disagree with it 101%

(Definitely a higher percentage on the "blame the Americans.." crack) ;)

ah, oops sorry about the date! your right.
Yeah, I agree... there is absolutely no reason (other than to start something) to make a crack at a country.

BINGO! :)

I just ain't gonna nip at that bait. We just got rid of all the drama from the Brick crowd. I'm not going to be the one to have it flare up on another topic like national origin.

I'm real happy where I live and where I come from. If somebody else doesn't - they own that monkey not me.

Did you see that the sony bluetooth memory stick has went down to $118 at the palmgear website?

yeah they have to negotiate the price difference otherwise people wouldn't keep buying the seprerate bluetooth ms and nx70.
