Not less than 5 minutes ago I called my SONY dealer. I was wondering if he had the NZ90 yet. He said WAIT! there is a new model coming out. An NX80 or NZ80 with integrated cell phone.

Folks if this is old news, I do apologize.

BTW he was who supplied me with my NR and my NX.

Again take all this with a grain of salt!

But this I will tell you, I spend quite a bit with him, and he feels he "looks out” for me to make the right move.

As a last point , he does not have the NZ90 in yet

But tell us whatever you can! This would confirm that Sony is headed to pair up their N prods with different entertainment devices, i.e, phones cameras, etc.

Did your dealer mention anything about a tv tuner?

I think there are a couple of new/advance techno items that SONY yet to include in their coming CLIE. For example:

The TV Tuner :

The USB On-The-Go (OTG)

http://www.usb.org/press/pressroom/2003_01_21_philips.pdf

It will be good to hear that the next CLIE will have the current NZ90 with the above items being integrated together.

No he was rather vague, not even sure of the exact model no.

He was rather positive about the cell phone though.

He is a small store, but he has a knack of obtaining new product before most anyone else.

I had bought my gunmetal NX form him about a week or week and a half before SonyStyles had it in stock.

In fact he kinda let me down that he did not have the NZ yet

Again please, grain of salt here.

I'd still rather have a great camera and a seperate phone. I don't like putting a big hot lcd next to my ear. Thanks for the info

I'd still prefer the NZ90. With a cell phone you either get a really small display or a huge display that doesn't feel right next to your face. The small screen isn't an option for me..actually I already ordered my NZ so that is that!

i'M SURE SONY WOULDN'T BE STUPID ABOUT INTERGRATING A CELL PHONE. i'M SURE IT WOULD HAVE A JACK FOR A HEAD SET, AND WHEN THE HEAD SET IS NOT IN USE IT WOULD BE ON SPEAKER PHONE OR SOMETHING

The TG50 is going to be the upcoming smartphone to compete with the Tungsten W, its got all of the same features: bluetooth, keyboard, wireless access, hi-res screen.

I highly doubt that, because from the price it looks like it's going to compete directly with the T|T not the T|W. From what I've heard I the T|W is almost a smart phone, but it's an OS 4.1 device running Palm's own Hi-Res API and a lot of programs do not work on it. If the TG50 is a cellphone (and not CDMA-3G capable for Sprint PCS service), I will not be getting it. Besides, since Sony and Ericsson joined I doubt they would release a Clie to compete with their own phone the P800! Sony is smarter than to compete with themselves.

I think the TG50 will have a keyboard to comply with the new Xerox suit and dumping Graffiti. Also for the other rumors of it not having a touch screen would be ludicrous, and if Sony did such a thing they might as well have their own proprietary OS on the system. I've very jazzed about the TG50, and I have my own ideas of what it will have.

Most likely it will be an OS5 device, with a 150 to 200MHz StrongARM processor. It will have the Sony Standard(tm) 16MB of RAM on an OS5 model (11MB user accessible). It will come with some of the same programs that the NX comes with, be able to view some of the same content. As for the screen, it will be using a version of Sony's existing Hi-Res+ API, but scaled back for the 320*320 screen. This is of course pure speculation, and I hope that it is the case. Otherwise my question to Sony would be; A $400 OS4 device?!? What are you thinking?

one can't rule out the possibility of an OS4.1 TG50 with cell phone capabilities. Doesn't eh T/W run for that price?

Eh, good point

http://www.palm.com/products/handhelds/tungsten-w/

The T|W does run for around the same price, which isn't a good sign. I do not want a cellphone or GSM/GPRS capabilities, but time will tell. I might have to wait for an OS5 T model with virtual graffiti (GASP! I said wait). I wanted to have the latest and greatest, and from what I'm seeing now I'm thinking yOyOYoo might be right that the TG50 may be an OS4.1.2 device. But, the T|W from the specs does not offer Bluetooth.

A T-series with a bluetooth headset/earphone for the phone/mp3 player. That will make me smile. :D

the only problem i see with integrating cellphone functions into a new model would be that they would totally alienate their own local market....the japan cellphone frequencies/networks are totally different from the world standards.
Hence they would have to spend extra for a local product, or not release a japanese-version at all..
That really sucks cuz being a foreigner living in japan...i have been waiting FOREVER for a japanese version of the p800...infact, there are absolutely NO smartphones available here. (no treos, no stingers, etc...)

all this is quite ironic actually...all you guys from the US drooling over the japanese-toys, while I am here drooling over the SE p800 and the new Apple powerbook 17"laptop:D

Why can't we get our Tseries with virtual graffiti? Why!?
Why can't we get our CF drivers for the NX series

Damn you sony!!!!

I wonder if that "80" is the "other" NZ the lady at Best Buy told me about yesterday. But she told me there were "two" NZ90's - one silver and one black. One cost 799, the other 899. I thought she was nuts bc I hadn't seen ANYTHING about a silver 90. She said she spoke with the Sony rep herself. It would make sense though that an NZ with a cell phone in it would sell for 100 more...

Maybe she's hard of hearing and thought "cellphone" was "silver."

They wouldn't alienate anyone if they went with GSM like Handspring- T-Mobile.

If Sony Clie model offers mobile phone function, then it will throw a real big cake on the face of Sony Ericsson JV.

The SonyEriccson P800 was supposedly released yesterday, but there was no contract with a carrier, so they're delaying the 'real' rollout until this is done. Supposedly T-Mobile and AT&T (possibly Cingular).

Features:
SYMBIAN OS (not palm)
Integrated camera (640x480)
Bluetooth
MS Duo

From what I understand, Sony is not making cell phones. That's the whole point of contracting with Ericcson.

Anyone care to confirm this info?

The P800 is released in the Netherlands....that is.....some phone companies do have them in their shops.

That's my whole point. Sony should not manufacture mobile phone by itself until the SonyEricsson Joint Venture dissolves.

The P800 already has this market. It's the NZ90 of cellphones -- filled to the brim with features (and expensive :)).

P800 is not a plam base smart phone and that is the reason it would only attract certain consumer. While a Palm base smart phone would have a wider appeal. Sony used to manufacture mobile phone and the JV with Ercisson, all the latest product coming out from the JV firm (SE) are strikingly Ericssion products. The smart phone P800 for example are pretty much a Ericsson products rather than Sony. These day, the different between mobile phone and PDA is going to get slimmer. Next month, Nokia is going to come out with a mobile phone that has PIM function, MMS, tri-band, bluetooth, GPRS, color TFT, camera, MP3 among other functions.

I've seen the Nokia phone w/ PIM function, MMS, the color screen, camera (640x480). It's pretty nice, large for a phone, but it's not huge, the circular keypad is also pretty neat.
