View Full Version : NX70 Remote is real handy!

Today I was surfing the net on the NX70 and listening to music then I just stopped a while and enjoyed the music and I happened to be staring at the remote and noticed this little point on the remote. I was wondering why would Sony put this stupid crap on there but then it reminded me of a stylus. So I tryed it out and it worked well as a stylus and fit my hands (almost) perfectly. Did anyone else know this or am I just saying something everyone knew but me? I tried to post from the NX70 but I kept getting some kind of error message in French on the ClieSource Mobile site.

ummmmmm, could you describe the point in more detail? it was part of the stylus? on the screen? where?

Yeah, this is a known feature, but that shouldn't detract any from the joy of your "discovery." Often, I find that I forget about this nifty little nub, and then "re-discover" it all over again. Whether I'm getting coffee in the morning at the cafe across the street from my apartment, reading AvantGo and listening to mp3s, or surfing/IMing and playing mp3s at a local hotspot, it's nice not to have to pry out the stylus - and potentially lose it.

Orin look at your NX70 remote and you will see this little grey "nub" it looks like the tip of a stylus. Right next to the hold button.

Orincarina, we're referring to the in-line remote that controls the AudioPlayer (and MoviePlayer and FlashPlayer...). If you look at the end, above the Play/Stop button, there's a raised nub that can be used in place of the stylus.

OHHHHHHHH that remote........ok cool, i thought you were talking about the tv remote app so i was looking through all the screens looking for a little nub, i stopped using the remote as a stylus cause it fits better in my hands where the hold button is facing down so then i can't see the screen as well, if only it telescoped a little bit (i dont mean to be complaining)

LOL, and I thought I was a genius. Either way I am still suprized at the little stuff Sont threw in. It shows that they are just holding out on making the perfect Clie, just to keep up upgrading and buying new one's.

well so far i've loved the candid camera, i can get shots of my friends without them knowing, and if the candid camera doesn't appear again on a device, then i probably won't sell this thing for a while

12-28-2003, 10:15 PM
I know what you mean. Even though this thing is discontinued I still bought it. The only thing I would upgrade to is the NX80. Cause you know what that means, more detailed candid pics. ;)
Orincarnia
12-28-2003, 10:18 PM
heh , yeah, maybe i'm just consoling my self about not being able to upgrade, my friend zack says he can notice the camera taking a picture a whole lot faster on the nx-80 than on mine

What do you mean notice?
Orincarnia
12-28-2003, 10:23 PM
well the cylindrical part of the 70 is about the same width as the rest of the device, actually it looks like a design detail, but on the 80, the cylinder is much bigger than on the 70 and you can actually see the camera lens, so that wouldn't be of any help to me, actually i know it sounds wrong that i take candid shots but i like natural photos not posed for...........my personal preference

He's got a point. I don't take half as many "candids" on the subway with my NX80 as I did with my old NR for precisely this reason. Also, nowawdays, people are more aware of the pervasiveness of cameras because of all the press that phone cams have been getting. It's to the point now where they're trying to enact legislation to ban them in certain places.

D00d you were taking pics of people on the subway? LMAO. You remind me of my brother I let him borrow mine for a little bit and all I had after he was done was a bunch of females really round rear ends.

Thanks A-OnE. I thought that thing was just decorative. Its nice that if I'm listening to music I don't have to pull out my stylus to do something.

LMAO, no problem. When I first opened the package on mine I thought the same thing till today when I was just spacing out and though "What a stupid little tip".

Geez!!! I always wondered what that funny little nub was for. (And I called myself a power user)
Thanks for the "tip" A-OnE!

No prob ClieDad. I wasn't even going to say anything because the people here on ClieSource already know everything about there devices.

It would be crazy! So it is pretty much correct to say that it is impossible to upgrade the cam on the NX70 without upgrading the whole device. The only problem I have with taking candid's is that the cam moves only back and forth not side to side so I have to take the pic akwardly. I can't really act like I'm doing something on my clie unless the target is right in front of me. LOL @ target.

lol, i know what you mean...
O.O
heres a genius upgrade idea. a joystick for the cam! lol. or at least the ability to move the cam head with your fingers or somehting. man...lol, that's like handing a terrorist a nuke. (nothing offensive intended to anyone). its dangerous...but sweet ***** for the guy. omg...i'm getting excited. ^_^; nerd? yep. proud? oh yeah

You know what another sweet idea that I think CLiePet was working on. Wireless video transmission! With the NX70 you can probably get an hour out of the battery when it is using the WiFi card. Hide your NX70 somewhere and have it transmit video back to your laptop. Hahahahaha*evil laugh*! The world is yours!

Man, your an evil d00d.
Way back I heard this real evil guy say "The bottom of most doors is high enough off the ground to slide the cam side of the NX70 under" obviously you can figure out the rest. Ive never tried it and maybe someone might see the silver tip of the NX, but it's just like a high tech mirror anyway.

gee, i recieved my Clié remote for my NX70V today in the post (the guy i bought it off left the remote in his residence in Korea and agreed to send it to me) and i also was confuzzled by this knob in the top. After ¼ hour of trying to pull it off, i gave up then say that A-OnE used it as a stylus. It works great! fits better in my hand too, curious.
And about what acraniotes said about legislation being passed about cameras, its gotten to the point here in Australia that all mobile phones are banned in changerooms around the country, because of the cameras. This means i can no longer use my humble Nokia 3330 in the changerooms (big deal). But theres no law against using my NX70V in changerooms http://www.msnfanatic.com/forums/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif

yeah...buddy boy, your not kidding....
and A-OnE:
you can easily cover up that silver bit. jus look at the bottom environment where the clie will be. and find material similar in colour to that. then cut a small lil slit and use that to cover the clie up. it would prob take like...i dunno...15min max.
but that door thing really woudln't work. the thickness is jus too much on the door. the cam wouldn't be able to get a good angle...unless you wanted to get some beautiful sceneric shots of the flooring....

You know, regarding the camera, this is sort of funny... My sister works as a production executive at Warner Brothers, and as such, goes to all their premieres. For the biggies, I usually fly out to LA and go as her guest. When I flew out for The Matrix: Reloaded premiere, as is often the case these days, everyone had to pass through metal detectors (and I mean everyone - even the stars). The strange thing is that they weren't looking for guns and knives, per se, but camera phones. If you had one, you had to leave it with security and they'd give you a receipt so you could pick it up after the movie. When it was my turn to go through, they didn't even look twice at my NR70V - I just had to turn it on for them so they could see that it wasn't a bomb.
When I went to see Revolutions, I didn't even bother bringing my NX80V, since I figured they'd be looking for PDAs by now.

Seriously I think camera enabled PDA's are still under the radar. I really dont hear alot of people mention them when they talk about camera enabled devices...
sanjayschrapel
12-29-2003, 07:13 PM
yes, all the focus is on camera phones, not camera PDAs, which puts all us sick ppl thinking of new ways to take pics with them in good steed.
besides practically everyone here has a nokia 7250, noone batters an eyelid when people bring them out. Another advantage of the PDA, i pull it out and people actually say "whats that thing?" then i swivel the screen and theyre gobsmacked. The NX70 is gr8 for the socially conscious...

I actually haven't been taking out my NX in public, I dont want people coming up to me asking "what is that?" I do like the video record feature even though it is low quality. Always good when ya boy thinks he gots madd game so you record him approaching a girl and he gets shut down. I'm usually close to pull this off with the NX closed.

The worst is when you try to get some work done at a cafe, or some other public place. In my case, this entails breaking out the KB100 and popping the NX80 in it... About a half an hour later I'm finally alone again, and able to work. Oh, and God forbid I'm at a hotspot and surfing the web - "Wait, you can get on the Internet?!?"
Still, I think people are becoming conditioned to look for that little lens - whether it's a phone or a PDA.

acraniotes, i envy your ability to enter a coffee shop and acess their wireless networks. Heck, i dont think a single internet café in Adelaide provides Wi-Fi. Living in New York you probably dont believe a urban centre with a population of 1.4 million can really be called a city . ah well, some of the NX's features cant be used everywhere i suppose.

Two words for you, Sanjay: Star. Buck's.
In Manhattan, we have more Starbuck's than we do rats, and that's saying something. Within a five block radius of my apartment, there are like 10 of them. I'm not kidding. So, pretty much wherever I am in the city, I'm less than a block away from a hotspot. Mind you, you have to pay for them, since they use T-Mobile's T-Zones, but still.
In the summer, it gets better because you can sit outdoors in Bryant Park, City Hall Park, Battery Park and the South Street Seaport and get free WiFi access. Also, there are a zillion unsecured private networks around town that are listed on various websites. Up at my countryhouse I still have three Starbuck's to choose from, as well as the local public library and Border's Bookseller's.
Right now, New York and San Francisco are probably the most heavily "unwired" cities around. Just wait, though.... In no time I'm sure Adelaide will join the revolution. In the meantime, have fun with your camera.

NOW youve made me jealous as *^&%, acraniotes :p
hey, theres a Borders bookshop in the city, i might have a look there sometime. Starbucks dont exist here.
But i suppose if i really want wireless internet i should go on Three (www.three.com.au) and get a Motorola A920, theyve got everything from video calling to video news. If its multimedia and connected, its on 3G. But its prepaid mobile for me :D

Okay, fine... How's this?
The nub is cool. It was nice of Sony to include it. At first, I didn't know what it was. Now I do. I use my control wand all the time when I'm playing mp3s. Thank you, Sony.;)
