Can someone advise as to where to get the clie battery changed for cheaper than what Sony wants? My 610 has a bit of problem charging. I have to squeeze it at the bottom sometimes to get a charge going but now that does even work. Everything works and the screen is bright. I am running out of juice because I can't get a charge. Am I going crazy or is the battery going bad? I hate to throw it away because it still works but any repairs will cost me enough to just buy a 760c on ebay? Any thoughts or comments appreciated...

If the problem is just the battery, it cost USD50 to replace for a new one in Hong Kong.

My N-610 does a similar thing to yours, i.e., but when it does charge, the battery comes up to 100% and discharges at it's usual rate. Also, if the little "lightening bolt" icon across the battery is missing while sitting in it's cradle, it won't HotSynch either--even though the power light on the cradle is "on." Usually, I just squirm or wiggle it around until it makes adequate contact with the cradle and I eventually get the "charging" sign on the battery icon. Also, when the handheld is not making good contact with the cradle, the unit will turn itself off after two minutes, in spite of the fact it's set to "Stay on in Cradle" under preferences. (And, fortunately for Sony, my 12-month warranty just expired, so I'm stuck with the problem at my expense.)

Like you, when the battery goes, I'll likely be faced with battery replacement or upgradingl. (By that time, (and at the rate Sony bangs new models out,) I'll probably pick up a TG for what an N-760 goes for now. They practically act like they're disposable diapers!!! :D

Anyone else have this problem and a fix for it?

All the Best,

I doubt the problem is with the battery. If you squeeze the case and it starts charging then it sounds like your really just pressing down on the unit and getting a better contact with the cradle. I have been having problems with the cradle contacts from time to time. It seems that the little tab on the cradle wears down a little after time giving a l looser fit on the cradle. On top of that the contacts seem to build up a coating of tarnish that effects the connection. I have had good luck cleaning the cradle contacts just by rubbing them with a piece of paper. The contact on the Clie is a little harder to clean. I usually use a toothbrush to scrub it. This will give better performance for about a month.

If this doesn't work for you I'll be happy to take your Clie off your hands.
