View Full Version : What do you do if your stylus won't stay in?

I posted something like this in the T forum, but it is so dead that I thought I would tap into the General forum. I also thought that there were others with other PDA's that have the same problem. What do you if your stylus keeps falling out? Is there any way to keep it in or make it hold better? I really appreciate all of your suggestions.

Thank you!

Maybe you can try to put some Scotch Tape around it? I have never tried it, but have a go at it and let me know how it turns out.

Actually, I used some packaging tape right below the plastic top. Apparently, that is where some of the holding pressure is exerted on the stylus. Right now it works, but I will let you know if it fails over time. Thanks.

ALL of the holding pressure is in the removable writing tip section. wanna test the hypothesis? take off your tip and see if it clicks at all with just shaft and reset pin . . . . = P
i believe som epeople put on clear nail polish around that ridge and it clicks as well as a bit of adhesion

Super Glue it in place :) Just Joking..........you could put a a DROP of CA ( Super Glue ) of some other type of bond in the INNER part of the Stylus top opening. What this does is create a " stopper for the stllus to keep it in place.I done this in the past and it worked.

Super Glue is kind of close. I have an NZ90 and the stylus kept falling off. So, I just used black tape to tape it down completely. I now use a separate stylus.

The best trick is to open up the Clie and have a look at the tube/shaft in which the stylus goes in. There is a plastic lever in which the stylus will "click" into place to hold it there.
This plastic lever is quite fragile and flimsy and any attempt to bend it back to increase the pressue will snap it.
The work around is to place a bit of tape (one small strip of duct tape is more than enough!) to put pressure on the stylus. This trick has kept my T615 happy for the last 2 years (and never had to open it up again!).

Hope this idea helps!

Actually, I appreciate all of the ideas. I tried nail polish but it rubbed right off, even after letting it dry for 1/2 hour (maybe there is a particular type of polish that I am suppose to use... I just borrowed some from my wife). I did want to try the super glue thing because that would allow the plastic to reshape, since it literally dissolves the plastic and reforms it as it dries. The tape works for now (around top of the metal shaft). There appears to be another place there where pressure is exerted on the stylus and holds it in place. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, since I have already appreciated all of your help. Thank you all! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

You can use parts of a disposable cigarette lighter to keep your stylus in place:

The one that they use in a hospital.

The trick is you should know how to apply it on the lower "or" upper part of the aluminum shaft of the stylus just before the plastic. (with or without glue.)

one mm should be sufficient.

I did that a few months ago and posted the same reply in this T-series thread (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36689), a couple days ago.  That o-ring fix really works great.  You can adjust the tightness of the fit by screwing down the two pieces of the stylus to squeeze the o-ring out.

Um, don't use Super Glue ... I'm pretty sure everyone was just joking.

I would avoid using any glue - including super glue.
Super glue has the property of dissolving some plastics - so if you make a mess of it, it could spoil other components or mark the surface of the device ... or screen :(

I suppose you can buy a new PDA since the old one was "broken"... :) ;)

A definite NO NO for sure. You'll have permanent milky & powdery substance coating surround the vicinity of the super glue applied area as the fume of the glue reacted with the plastic surface. If your finger expose to the fume while putting the super glue on the plastic (eventhough your finger is not actually in contact with the liquid glue itself), you'll permanently mark your finger print on that plastic area.

The glue emits a lot of reactive fume. Your eyes can get irritated when they get too close to the wetted area. Some of police detectives use the super glue fume to check for finger prints. That is how reactive the super glue fume is.

Maybe my solution to this same problem wasn't quite as involved as lighter o-rings, glues, tapes, etc., but it has worked wonderfully.... I bought a new stylus. My old one had worn to the point that it wasn't staying in, but the new one clicks (and stays) in place just like new! And don't mind the new blue color either.
