just thought I'd share a few thoughts about my new NX73v, first of all WOW it's cool. (ok got that out of the way)
The camera is not the best but it's fine for little snaps, I haven't played with the movie camera much yet.
The main reasons I upgraded from my TG50 were 1: the screen size and brightness. 2: the CF ability especially enhanced with extra drivers.
I am a photographer and sometimes have to transmit images from a scene via a laptop and nokia 6310i mobile. The advantage of being able to send pictures from my clie is down to size and weight. sadly there are no full photographic editing apps like pocketphojo for PPC but for basic editing I have been trying Fotogather. I can now successfully take a digital hires (7meg) image on my Nikon d1 camera, pop the compact flash card into my NX, import a shot into Fotogather (at 1/2 setting for the test) alter brightness and contrast (if necessary) then export it to my memory stick (because i can only get cliemail to see the MS) as a jpg at about 70% compression. then I open up cliemail write a new mail attach the image file connect to pop sever and send the mail which took under one minute to send. The original image was 190kb (7.5 meg opened) and the emailed image was32kb (1.88 meg opened) and could still be blown up to 14 X 9 inches without any major loss of quality, which is more than enough for newspaper use.
Although I cannot incorporate a caption as with photoshop, if i'm emailing then all i need to do is add the caption in the email.
my NX can now take the place of my second rucksack holding my laptop and charger/spare battery/ cables etc..etc...

Very nice use of the NX !!!

I plan to use my (futur) NX to view at 100% 6mpix pictures (check focus / DOF before reshooting).

How long does it take to decompress a 7mpix jpeg picture with Fotogather ? did you try another viewer like jpegshow, rosco viewer, jpegview, acid image ?

A tip for you if you need more speed: try using lightspeed to improve jpeg decompression duration.

Thanks !

It takes about 30-40 secs to open a full image but the main prob is that you can only import at 50% size which still give a decent enough size to publish for newspapers and to send over the mobile. the 'original' setting seems to crop the size down alot. I haven't tried the others yet, do they let you cut the file size down at all ???
It is gonna be a very handy tool for my job and proves I don't need a PPC.

If I recall what I have read, at least Acid Image is able to display 100% of the image, but jpegshow should be quicker. Thanks for sharing this interesting experience.

The only thing which could make me use a PPC based PDA is to be able to use the PocketPhojo software which meets 100% of one photographer's need.

Regards. Joe.

Pocket phojo for palm would be my dream app, I have just tried jpgshow and although it doesn't edit it views all the pictures I take on my CF using my Nikon D1 thats 7meg (opened) per picture and Jpgshow opens each one to full screen (in landscape aswell) very quickly indeed, a perfect tool to show a client a clearer idea of a picture you are taking for them whilst on the shoot.
