Major flaw-

You can't save a movie or voice directly to the compact flash. So if you are in a pinch and are running out of memor on your stick- you can't stick a cf in and use it. You can only transfer files to and from it. What a waste!

Worse, you can't directly playback movies, pics, or songs from a CF.

I don't understand why it isn't just treated like another drive.

What a stupid design!

It's not stupid, it's deliberate... ;-)

Seriously, Sony intended all storage to go to the MemoryStick slot. At least on the NX70, you'll note that the CF slot is marketed as a "Wireless Communication Slot".

But you can work around this by getting CliePet's 3-bit hack and install the UX50's multimedia app. It isn't perfect but at least it's a step up.

My uninformed friend, i play mp3s regularly from my cf card. Look around this website and someone may be kind enough to help.

If he can transfer back and forth he has some kind of driver already for his CF. Doesn't seem to be a very good one though.

In any case, its actually not a stupid design and the answer is very simple why it was not intended to be used for memory.

i can use the cf slot to store files from MS to CF without any drivers at all. What's the problem?

Check out the "CompactFlash" link on this website!  Or check out the following thread (the one I've been using the most):

"In a pinch" is a slang term for in a hurry or an emergency... I suspect the unregistered starter of the thread may be a Brit.

It's pretty common slang over here in NZ too :)
A 'Pinch' is a tight spot, an emergency.

Why are there so many people out there that just can't read?

Does anyone else hate those people out there that just can't read a few posts before they post retarded uneducated statements against things which are not remotely true?
